My dad seems to believe that's true. He just doesn't want to touch his small amount of grey hairs because he fears that he'll get an even larger amount of grey hairs.

Well, if you have a head full of gray hair, than the likelihood of you getting another gray hair is very possible. However, if the majority of your hair is blonde/brunette/red, than it is very unlikely you will grow another gray hair if you pull it out. The reason our hair is the color it is depends on a pigment in our cells called melanin. A lot of melanin gives a person brown hair, less melanin gives blonde hair, and a mixture of different concentrations of melanin produces red hair. No melanin equals gray hair. As a person gets older, melanin production in the body slows drastically, leaving a person with gray hair. However, due to gene defects, sometimes a young person may find a gray hair or two in his/her scalp. Sometimes stress can cause us to have gray hair too. But to answer your question, you are more likely to grow back a regular colored strand of hair than a gray hair though you may still find a gray hair every once in a while.

wait... 80,000,000 strands of hair falling out everyday? I DOUBT THAT.. Maybe 3-4 max. maybe a little more. but not 80,000,000. Anywho, Yeah I have heard about the old wives tale. Pluck some white hair, double comes out. It's just really a myth. You'll probably end up getting just one white one. or if your lucky you'll get a black one again. it really depends on the genetics of you and your family, and the stress levels. I have some white hair thanks too f'n stress. But regardless I'm proud of it, you know what they say, the more gray/white hair, the more wiser and experienced you are. and that aint no wives tale ;) hope that helps
