how do you take out the mounting bracket you glue to the windshield

One half of the mounting bracket is glued to the windshield. The other half slides into it and is locked in place by a small set screw. Loosen the set screw with the appropriate size Allen or Torx wrench and slide the mirror off the mounting plate. The mounting bracket stays in place because it's glued to the windshield. If you need to remove the glued on mounting plate, You could probably try heating the bracket to release the glue, since these mounting buttons always seem to fall off on a really hot, sunny day .......BUT... you would DRAMATICALLY INCREASE your chances of breaking the windshield.... Glass does not like to be heated unevenly or quickly. Another possiblity ... although I haven't tried it.... maybe Acetone would dissolve the glue. BUT... be sure none of it drips on the interior or the dashboard..... Acetone dissolves ( as in... melts ) plastic!!!

Take a chisel and a hammer and hit the mount along the glass till the glue gives way....Don't hit the glass though!
