Most agencies want at least 60 college credits. Maybe you should study sociology or social work. They also want a clean record and some experience. You might want to see if there are volunteer opportunities in your area (police reserve). It won't be any more difficult than for a man. As for working with abused children, a lot of police work has to do with helping families with abusive parents (and men abusing women), so it's a big part (and difficult part) of police work. This is mainly done at the local level (rather than state police). Housing authority police do a lot of that too.

If you want to work with abused children, it would be better to become a social worker. Cops do not really do that type of work. And the ones that do are in a specialized division, which takes years to get into. It is the same process for a woman to become a police officer as a man. First you need to apply, then you will have to go through numerous test and if you are hired, you will go through an academy. Then you will be a rookie, and prob. get the worse job until you are there for a while and get seniority.

To be honest, its actually a bit easier for women to be police officers. Generally police departments are looking to fill minority spots and being a female puts you in this category. But, the thing you need to ask yourself is do you really want to do it? Its a tough job and, speaking as a female officer, a majority of women in police work should not be there. Be prepared to put alot of time in at the gym to build up your physical strength and to maintain it. Its also intellectually challenging making you think quickly on your feet. You have to be decisive, not shy and willing to step forward. I would recomment some study, but I would advise something like Psychology not Criminal Justice (my CJ degree contributed almost nothing to my actual career). As has been said, if youre looking to work with abused children, social work or even the Department of Juvenile Justice is the place to do it. But, if you are willing to put the time, dedication and effort into being a patrol officer for a long while, then there are possibilities in working with children as a Detective. But dont count on those positions as normally the only way they fill is for someone to retire.

Whether you find police training hard, or easy depends on you physical and mental abilities. You cannot decide on a specialized area of police work until you graduate from the academy, and have some field experience.

i tried for years to get on with Gainesville PD. i ultimately were given an grant after I made plans to flow out of state! i do not recommend that you try that. From what I bear in mind of how issues worked down there, hiring determination replaced into given to previous protection force and those with the Academy already finished. So i might want to look at attending an authorized academy (there replaced into one in Gainesville on the Sante Fe CC). keep on with everywhere it really is hiring. that is more convenient to get on with the more effective departments once you've adventure. Being woman shouldn't carry you decrease back in besides. make confident you're in structure to bypass the actual exam (save up your well-known exercising, yet prepare to the exam, too). solid success.
