How about adding a honey baked ham to the menu? There are some people who either enjoy the variety or don't like turkey at all (like my husband). Then you will not have so much cooking to do.

That is what we have done since he joined the family, and my daughter also prefers the ham.

You should be fine with a 12 lb bird. Especially if there are lots of sides to go along. You may not have as much leftover turkey, but if that is a problem you can always buy a small turkey breast and cook it.

This is probably enough with sides and desserts. As, mentioned above, you may get a small Ham Shoulder or another Bird or Breast. I would rather have too much than not enough and I love the Turkey/Ham leftovers to just snack on and make a quick sandwich. Happy Thanksgiving!

all the TV cooks this month have said 1 & 1/2 pounds per person.. personally I think that is too much.. maybe they are factoring in the weight of the bones too.. So your 12pounder might not feed your 14 guests.. Just add some other holiday meats into the mix.. a nice Roast beef, or some fried chicken for the kids..

yeah sweetie that will not be enough. i had last year 9 adults and 2 kids and i bought a 23 pounder last year and there wasnt much for left overs so i would go and get the biggest one they have if you like to have some leftover turkey with your sides :) good luck and happy thanksgiving to your fam.

A 12# will do it but you probably won't have left-overs. Since I love the left-overs I would leave the 12# in the freezer and get 14-15 pounder.

Get two 12 pounders and you should be fine. It's easier and faster to cook 2 smaller birds than one very large 20LB+.
