I definitely believe that's true. I hope you don't if I share mine with you: I had this dream sometime last year I think, right after I started college.
I was in a very foggy atmosphere, and couldn't really see anything except for gray haze everywhere. But I knew where I was, even though I couldn't consciously see it. It FELT like a familiar place. Then I realized that the reason I walking around was because I was looking for someone in the fog. So I continue to walk forward, slowly, and then the figure of a man appears. I instantly felt happy and continued to walk up to him. I couldn't see his face nor body: only his silhouette, but I just KNEW who he was. The closer I got to him, the more excited I became, like you feel when you approach someone who you haven't seen in a long time, and you get to touch them again for the first time. When I was close enough, he opened his arms and embraced me, and kissed my forehead. I look up at him, even though I still couldn't see his face, and he kissed me again, but that time on the lips.
Then I woke up. For the next several months afterward, I thought it was just a dream, until I experienced deja vu one day, and it was exactly like my dream, minus the fog.
The familiar place was school, and the man was my boyfriend (whom I wasn't dating at the time I had the dream). We had just come from a long weekend where we didn't get to see eachother (which explains the "long-lost" feeling), and he had been waiting for me to get out of class so we could have lunch together. And when I met him, it was exactly like the dream; he embraced me, and kissed my forehead. And when I looked up at him, he kissed me on the lips.
It was amazing. Ever since then, I've believed that dreams sometimes do come true, and maybe the secret behind deja vu is that they are repeats of things we dreamt about in the past, and just didn't remember the dream. At least that's how I like to think of it.
I hope I answered your question.

Yes, I did before I met my husband. When I saw him the first time he was the man I had been dreaming about! It was wild!

Sure when you think about them before going to bed, if you think about your mom with a stick in her hand you will surely see her again in your dreams.

Why not, it is always true. But angle of perception is differentiating everything you perceive.
