I agree. Race is a ridiculous concept when it comes right down to it.

That would mean you are talking about the16 grand grand parents, you had at that time. It is very improvable they were all from spain...
So you are a mixture, witch is good. Probably your family is very proud of the pair that came from spain... and that is why you know about them
There is not a spanish race... Spain has mixeded bloods... so enjoy the spanish you and the american you... because your culture must very american by now

Generally, Hispanic refers to people from Latin America, though the definition is
His‧pan‧ic /hɪˈspænɪk/
–adjective 1. Spanish.
2. Latin American: the United States and its Hispanic neighbors.
–noun 3. Also, Hispano. Also called Hispanic American. an American citizen or resident of Spanish or Latin-American descent.
To claim to be Hispanic you would need need to be at least 1/16 Spanish or Latin-American.
Check your heritage, figure the ratio, and this will tell you what to claim.

I never understood how hispanic could be considered a race, but Italian, Irish, German, etc. are considered a nationalities. ...And hispanic/latino are such generalizations. My husband's nationality is Colombian; that is not the same culturally as other nationalities that share the same language. Say what you feel you are. What does it matter anyway, you're a person. People are people regardless of color, religion, or nationality. You can call yourself what ever you choose!
