I was told by my doctor to never use q-tips.

I was told that wax is good for the ears, but if you have a problem with resedue or with wax build up, then he said to pour some hydrogen pyroxide in the ear and let it set for a minute then tilt your head to pour it out. It will fizz.It wil sound a bit funny when it fizzes. It supposed to loosen the wax build up which will then fall out on it`s own. It is safe. My vet had me do that to my cat`s ears too when she had build up of wax with ear infections.

I don't know about whitish residue but I have ear wax of a bronze color. You can take a wash cloth with your pinky or a cutip and soak it in warm water. Then you slightly twist around firmly but gently. You can also take a top full of peroxide whenever you want and pour into each ear one at a time until the bubbling is gone-but keep your head to one side until the bubbling stops and do the same on the other ear. After that take your towel or kleenex and clean all inside and around. But you always need to use warm water on the towel itself and cutip.Cold water doesn't moisten wax.

Peroxide with a q-tip but make sure that q-tip doesn't enter the inside of the ear for that can push the wax back in and that can cause an ear infection.

Cottonbuds. But I read in an Encyclopedia once that you shouldn't be cleaning your ears (interior) by yourself but instead, have a doctor do it. There was this diagram with a doctor putting some warm water in the ear and scraping it out with a cottonbud.

no, you're not even supposed to use q-tip because it pushes the wax in . Use ear wax removal from pharmacy. Or, and I never tried yet, warm some olive oil put in ear for about 5 min then rinse.

to clean that it would be wise to use a Q-tip. Although I would recommend using something like Cerumol to clean the ear canal, Q-tips can be used to clean the outer ear.
