Tolerances differ from person to person. What may be just a bruising to one may be a fatal blow to another. Blacking out is the brain's way of blocking out pain to avoid further shock. Death is the ultimate extent.

The truth is even pleasure can be painful if extended too long. Do you refer to emotional pain or physical pain? Some people are able to endure emotional pain for years. Physical pain however is a warning signal that something is wrong. My tolerance for pain is minimal. Even criticisms make me wince.

Everyone has their own individual level of tolerance. Some people like pain. Just think about people that are able to pierce their back with hooks & hang from them. Just seeing it makes me feel like I may pass out, but to them it obviously is not too much to take. I think that pain is not just physical, it's mental as well.
