The key word is "transform" - Greek = "metanoia" from which we get "meta"-anything...like "metamorphosis".

It means we need to be converted, changed, transformed..."by the renewal of our minds" - how? Prayer. Frequenting the Sacraments (especially Baptism - the beginning - and Holy Communion) and especially the reading of, and meditation upon the Holy Scriptures...

Practice, practice, practice....

I'm not a theological expert, but to me it means don't along with the crowd. For example, being "tolerant" and "open minded" of certain life styles when the Bible tell us it is sinful.

My understanding of "test and approve what God's will is" is, you will be able to discern what God's will is in all things if you put this into practice.

If you are conformed to this world , or have your thought and mind on it, you will not be able to please God, but to be transformed by the renewing of your mind , is life and peace. So it means to read the Bible to be renewed in your mind daily and to receive his word into your mind, that you can know what his will is and how to do it, to keep your mind centered on him and in him, and you will know how to please him

The "pattern of this world" is the godless mindset of our culture. The "transforming of the mind" is where we bring our affections in line with God's affections, to desire the things he desires. And the testing and approving of GOd's will means the development of the ability to know, in any given situation, what course of action, thought, or speech would God desire you to follow.

This world follows the path of satan. We are not to conform to the sinful lifestyles that are openly accepted all over this world, but go against what this world is doing and follow the word of God.

To renew your mind is to study the word of God daily.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

To rightly divide the word of God is to fully understand what His word is telling you. But you must pray to God and ask Him to open up what His word are saying to you. The Holy Spirit will show you what God is saying to you. It is giving you spritual sight in a world of the darkness of sin.

Pray to God daily and build up your relationship with the Lord. Be willing to hear what He as to say to you. God will not let you down.

This verse means pray and do the right thing. Clear your mind from worldly desires and you will hear God more clearly--and then you will better how to serve Him.

GOD's will is for us to focus on HIM. We should not follow what the world does, because, that will ultimately lead to our destruction.
