For me It was the death of my 5 week old son.
Believe me it was a fate worse then death and I would sooner have died myself than watch him die and now have to live without him.

For me Amy absolutely any fate is worse than death. I had my little taste of death and I fought not to come back. At least 2 times since I thought sure I would get to return, but I am certain any one would describe both avoidances as miracles. One was very interesting a way of dieing I thought would have met my rules for dieing an honorable death, and been in a way I guess one would consider sort of romantic. In Wisc. I had an emergency situation in town (makes it too long) and was in a hurry in an intense snow storm from home to town. Along the county Hwy there was a large dip with river and small bridge at the bottom. In my 72 Cady I was behind a very slow oldster in a large truck at the top on one side. To make it short I decided to pass in less than favorable circumstances. At about even on the way to narrow bridge my engine stops. No steering death straight ahead. Quickly said Lord thank you and forgive me my sins and as I finished, the engine started up and I made it to the bridge ahead and then picked up one very cold child. Next morning I am checking for the problem, and what I found was surprising. On the 72 Cady there is a separate smaller wire runs from the alterantor to the battery. After years it had worn the insulation off the wire and it had been then melted by arced welding the wire to the metal sheet that suported the radiator. This will definately cause the appropriate heat and weld and it had been a pretty healthy weld about the size of a BB. So that is what stopped the engine dead in its tracks yielding steering and brakes nearly non-operable, and certainly not any help in a tight situation. Here's the miracle part. It had been broken off in the weld in spite of the fact there sufficient slack on both sides , , and was suspended a few thousandths above the sheet metal. My major in college was industry for undergrad. I could think of no way this would happen in ordinary circumstances. It was too cold for that weld not to have solidified the instant the current stopped flowing. It was a sound looking weld and yet for some reason it broke off and the car restarted.
Way better than any rollercoaster ride. Truly let me assure any believer (and I think non believer as well, unless they have an evil heart) Death is better than what you have now. Too make decisions that refect a fear of death is a mistake. Fear in general is a mistake. Certainly being maimed can not be good but death that is just part of the process.
As for me if I can just get done the reason I remain I can leave and am looking forward to it. So most everything is worse than death but one thing that is very disheartening is a loving a mentally ill person.

Fate worse than Death:
Being in Prison for Life
Being Tortured
Having My Sons Die
Severe Pain that Never Goes Away
These all involve Religion. If I go to Prison I am there to learn from my mistakes for my Soul to grow or for someone elses Soul to grow. If I am tortured, God has a reason for it and it is meant to be. If my sons die then God says it is their time and not mine and they die for a big reason. And pain is a direct result of a Soul that is mending, growing, and learning. The pain causes action.
God wants us to be more like him, HOLY. To do that our lives are full of experiences that help our Souls grow and learn while on Earth. We are to learn these:
Love, wisdom, understanding, compassion, tolerance, patience, hope, faith, forgiveness, and courage.
Then we will be closer to God.

I can also. One does not apply to the other. Religion is based not on such an example. Loss of loved ones would be far worse then my own death. As to the "why" it is self explained by the nature itself. I would only be able to find true comfort from such distress from God

If you are informed of your fate by psychics, and keep avoiding it, but still you had the feared fate in life, then it is considered worst.
If you had the end of the line---fate---unknowingly, unexpectedly... then just say...well, it`s my fate! (but you can do something from it, bounced from it, derive knowledge & experience from it to make your life better, the next time around, because you are still alive.)..."When there is life, there is hope!" Isn`t it?
Actually, the worst fate is...unprepared death. (When God made everything He can to invite you to His kingdom...but you kept on delaying the actions just because you are very alive now, healthy and kicking well)

For me- a fate worse than death would be to spend my life in prison. To not be able to move through the earth, have privacy, or step out a door when I wanted would be 'worse than death'.

Living a life with out Jesus as your savior, and dying a lost soul and going to hel to me is a fate worse than anything.. The very core of who I am is a Christian, and I will never leave Jesus out of anything in my life, and that includes answering questions like this one.

Being forced to hurt someone I love would be a fate worse than death. Or having to watch someone I love be in pain while I did nothing about it.
Sadly, in the fundy christian world, this is exactly the fate god has - for eternity. He has to allow most of his "beloved" creation to suffer horribly, forever. Wow, would it bite to be him!

I would say the anticipation or fear of death is worse than death its self.
Second, leaving this earthly scene without leaving behind some worthy cause.
