I don't know if he was a historical figure or not. Not convincing evidence *for* in my opinion.
Views on tribalism? Well, I can see why tribalism was important 2000 years ago, but I don't think a bronze age religion and its values should be imposed in the 21st century.

I believe that Jesus is a myth. There isn't any historical texts outside the bible that document him ever existing. And even the bible doesn't say a word about him until some 40-80 years after he supposedly died. The story of Jesus has all the earmarks of mythology.
Again as far as tribalism is concerned, I'm not familiar with the subject as it pertains to the different religions. Why not ask members of those religions?

Well I'm an Atheist, and although I don't know much about Jesus, I know He existed. Therefore I believe He really was a person, of no religious power. I believe he was the same as you and me.
By the way: There is forms of Jesus talked about in almost any religion. Including Budhism and other religions, so thinking he didn't exist is pure bullhonkey
I think the jews, believe he existed, but then thought he was a fraud and they killed him.

Considering the fact that the measurement of time incorporates his birth, I think he did exist and did make a profound impression on people. Son of god? Look at the tabloids today, if he were around today they may say he was the baby of an alien and Madonna.
If the writings about him are anything close to what he said, he was a good guy who wanted people to be kind to each other.
The tribalism of religion causes nothing but conflict.

Atheist don't believe in God.
On the subject of Jesus - some of us think he was a historical figure. Some think he was a mythological figure. It is my understanding that he did not actually leave any writings of his own though he undoubtedly inspired a bit of writing about him.
But atheists do not believe that Jesus was God.

I don't know what exactly what atheists believe when it comes to this. But many scholars do believe that Jesus was a real person, but some debate that he was the son of God and others debate that he was just a wacko. Hope this helps a bit.

Jesus existed. There was proof for his existence and many atheists accept it. However, whether he is a Son of God, or was he really resurrected or was he of Virgin birth is not accepted by atheists.

Anyone who has lived and died can be considered an historical figure, although most do not make it into the history books.
