Oh I went throught that and it was so hard that I started an empty nest club where I lived. It really made a difference and the women had so many great ideas once we got together to make it easier to keep in touch with our children and it kept me busy.
The hardest thing was cooking smaller meals. And the quiet in the house was so awful at first. I started the club, we met once a week, and supported each other when it hit hard. I also volunteered more it really helped. There are schools and childrens organizations that really need volunteers to help. Before I knew it they were home for Christmas and the noise was wonderful. Keep busy. But one thing have a good long cry you deserve it, its so hard to let your children grow up and out of the house. All the best to you.

Plan some trips find some new hobbies and buy your children some prepaid phone cards so they can wean you away from them. It takes a while but your come into your own again. It is like a time of discovering what to do with all your time when you are not cooking, cleaning and fishing the stray socks out from under the beds. Join some clubs hang out with your homies and have some fun. Someday your house will have grandchildren and you will be busy again. Good luck I know it is hard.

I'm looking forward to mines. I think I'll have more money to shop, eat and break my plate. Relaxing is always a good thing. Treat yourself after that you have earned it and you deserve it. Have a life again. Maybe you've always wanted to go on a cruise, try joining a aerobics class, play bingo, meet new friends. There is plenty of things to do. Relax and enjoy before the grands start coming. Then you'll find yourself raising kids all over again. Good Luck and GOD BLESS!!!!!

Actually I was looking forward to it because the teenaged years were horrendous and I just wanted them out!!! The fact of it is your children will NEVER leave home! They will always put the same demands on you as a parent and you will have the same stresses as when they were your dependents. That is unless you can cut them off and have no involvement with them which a good loving parent wouldn't do. Yeah, I'm still there helping them out and doing things for them and I will be for the rest of my life and no they still don't appreciate it. I have a bad case of unconditional love for my children.

Get involved in outside activities. Join a book reading club at the library. Volunteer at a school or a soup kitchen Deliver meals to the elderly. I could go on however, you get the idea.

Difficult question, I suggest starting a business from something you are passionate about. Make sure it is something which will offer a real change (not to much).
To write a book and self publish is always a popular idea - just don't plan on making any money on it and maybe you will be surprised.
