There was an article in Cat Fancy several years ago about a cat named "Grandad". He lived to be 33 years old before he died.

I recently read that there was a cat born in 1977 who was still alive in 2003, which would make him 25.

Anything over 15 is old for a cat, so 20 is pretty impressive, but not the oldest cat who ever lived.

I have had cats that have lived to be 23 and 21-youngest so far has been 16. I still have three-one is 17, one is 8 and the other is 7.

We have had a 23 year old in our cattery and we see lots aged 18 and 19. I think cats and dogs live a lot longer these days due to the improvements in pet nutrition.

I think the average age they die is about 14-16 but i'd be well pleased if my mum's cat reached 20!
