My cat and i are very very close. H efollows me everywhere, and sleep next to me in bed every night. I raised him since i adopted him as a newborn, and bottle fed him. I can even understand what his 'meows' mean. He has never hurt me or anything like that. He even saved my life once when i fell asleep and the stove cuaght on fire, he woke me up.

But yesterday, i was watching a movie, and i was yelling at the movie because it was really exciting....lol.My cat jumped on me, bit my neck, growling, and then attacked my arm. Why did he do this? This is really not like him......

Wow, that is terrible. The cat probably just got scared but you need to get him used to loud noises and yelling because occasionally you may want to yell without getting attacked. Start yelling the way you did a little everyday and pet him or hold him while you yell...or turn the TV really loud and keep petting him to reassure him that it is OK. Cats are just animals and they are going to react to fear in a primitive manner...you just have to get him used to loud noises. Oh but you may want to take him to the vet first in case there is a medical problem causing the behavior.

Cats and all other felines just reach the neck to help you, not to harm you. You must have yelled in a scary way, which made him think that you were in danger. He was probably trying to take you away from your sit. You have a very nice cat..

If you haven't yelled before, you cat can get very frightened. Some cats hide, but your cat considered you a threat and attacked. I would advise not to yell again.

we had a female calico that seemed to not like loud noises, everytime my son would yell (he was 5) or cry the cat would attack him or whoever was making all the noise, we thought she would be a good cat to have around if burglars came into our house!

My cat does this if our voices get to loud. I think it either scares her or excites her. It doesn't matter who is being loud she will be on them and though my cat doesn't growl or bite she is in your lap yowling at you. I imagine if we didn't stop she might go as far as to bite or growl. This isn't in my cats character either she is usually quite meek and loving that is as long as we are quiet.

He was probably startled and stressed by your outburst. He reacted instinctually, with his "fight or flight" reflex. Monitor the behavior. If it happens again for a different reason, then it could be something else.

You shouldn't scared him.He has feelings too.Cats are sensible and don't like violent movements. Maybe he just wanted to have a peaceful time....
