1) To make us see how small we are in relation to His greatness. To give us a sense of awe. People used to marvel at the stars etc. long before they had any idea of what they were, and we can still marvel at them now with all our astronomical knowledge.

2) To make us realise that in spite of this, we are very special to Him because He gave us this earth to live on, with a perfect balance of nature until we messed it up.

3) Jesus said, "I have sheep who are not of this fold." This could possibly mean that there is intelligent life on other planets.

Have you thought about, also, the amazing life in the depths of the oceans that even now we know almost nothing about? And the thousands or millions of species still undiscovered in the rainforests, of insects, plants etc.?

There is absolutely zero evidence that any other universe exists. The universe HAS to be the size it is in order to permit life. Initial conditions in the Big Bang that are simply given (and not due to law or chance) make the universe what it is. For example, if the weak force within the atom were different by just one part in 10^120th power, galaxies would not have been able to form in our universe, and the universe would have collapsed back upon itself. “There is no explanation in the Big Bang theory for the seemingly fortuitous fact that the density of matter has just the right value for the evolution of a benign, life supporting universe.” -- Robert Jastrow “How is it that common elements such as carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen happened to have just the kind of atomic structure that they needed to combine to make the molecules upon which life depends? It is almost as though the universe had been consciously designed…” -- Richard Morris

God never stops creating if there is other life he has yet to reveal it to us. If not it matters not. God gave humans an Earth and after Armageddon it will be restored to paradisic conditions as originally intended in Eden filled with forever living righteous people. I will be happy with just that when it comes I do not worry about other planets. I live on one here now and welcome the hope of everlasting peace. Amen.
