I have had a sore throat for about 1 month now. I went to the doctors about 1 weeks ago, and she said it looked fine, and sent me home. But this morning, when i woke up, i look in my throat with a flash light, and it is really read. My tonsill's are white and swollen. I have a hard time swallowing, even liguids. And my voice is hoarse. My cheast hurts when i breathe in deep too, but i dont know if that has anything to do with it.

I have to work during the time that my doctors office is open tommorrow, and i cant take off work with such short notice. But i have today oof. Since my doctor isnt in today, should i just go to the ER, or should i just wait for this to go away on its own?

I would go to the ER. I'm not sure where you are, but if you are in the States, you might try going to a minor emergency center. They are often open 24 hours, or at least on weekends.
Sounds like classic tonsilitis to me. If it is interfering with your ability to eat and drink then you should see a doctor as soon as you can. Try taking some ibuprofen or tylenol (paracetemol) to make yourself a little more comfortable.

Actually, people do go to the ER with sore throats. All the time. Doesn't make it any more acceptable, but it happens.

Make an appointment with your doctor's office for the earliest time available, and go. If you are as sick as you say you are, your employer shouldn't have a problem with that. Call out to work, and just go. You'll have a doctor's excuse, and you'll feel better.

If it's truly not an option, try to find a walk-in clinic, or maybe try the health department.

If all else fails, the ER is still going to be there. And like I said before, you won't be the only one to go there for that.

I would not go to the ER. You will spend HOURS there, and possibly interfere in the care of folks who have true emergencies. Go to an urgent care clinic. In the meantime, gargle with salt water, take a fever reducer (aspirin, acetaminophen, or ibuprofen), and drink tea with honey and lemon. If you can't get to an urgent care, this should get you through until tomorrow. As for not being able to take time off on short notice, most employers are reasonable about unplanned time off if you are truly sick!

ER = Emergency Room. Do you think this is an emergency? Of course not. People don't go to the emergency room for a sore throat! Take 1000 mg. of Vitamin C and one Echinacea cap every couple of hours, and whatever OTC pain relief works for you. Drink tea with honey to soothe your throat. Do get to see your doctor when you can if symptoms don't subside in a couple of days, but stop overreacting!

Sounds like along with the sore voice box, your having a bit of a panic attack,if you feel that unsure, don't waste time in a hospital for hours on end for them to tell you the same thing..Just go to a local clinic, they are open all day every day...

Your condition is not considered an emergency unless your fever reaches a dangerously high level. Going to the emergency room is going to cause more stress to your body as you wait for serveral hours to be seen and make you feel even worse. Even if they do a throat culture, it will not be ready for days anyway.

DO NOT go to work tomorrow! You are ILL and should stay HOME.

Hi There

Here are some ideas on how to heal your condition.

Cause
Tonsillitis is caused either by Streptococcal bacteria or, less commonly, by viral infections. For safety sake, throat cultures are necessary to rule out strep throat and family members may also need to be tested, as they may be carriers and need to be treated along with the infected individual.

Natural Cures

Aromatherapy: Inhalations with bergamot, thyme, lavender, benzoin, tea tree, geranium, and lemon can help soothe symptoms. Lemon essential oil can also be used as a gargle.

Diet: Drink lots of fluids, especially pure filtered water, diluted fresh organic vegetable juices, warm broths, and light soups. To relieve pain, take two tablespoons of honey with a squeeze of warm lemon juice and sip slowly. If you are taking antibiotics, eat plain, organic yogurt with live cultures to protect healthy intestinal flora.

Fasting: A pure water or diluted juice fast for the first 48 hours of symptoms can often speed healing. Detoxing is one of the most powerful ways to heal the body. It lets the body rest while it has nutrients and time to deal with your toxic condition.

Flower Essences: Take Rescue Remedy® for accompanying stress.

Herbs: Combine the tinctures of cleavers and echinacea in equal parts and take one teaspoon of this mixture three times a day. As an alternative, you can also drink a hot infusion made from equal parts of dried elder flower, yarrow, and peppermint throughout the day.

Homeopathy: Belladonna, Merc sol., Phytolacca, Lachesis, and Aconite are helpful homeopathic remedies.

Juice Therapy: The following juice combinations can be helpful: carrot, beet, and tomato; carrot, pineapple; carrot, orange; carrot, apple; and carrot, celery, and ginger.

Nutritional Supplementation: The following nutrients are recommended: Vitamin A, vitamin B complex, vitamin C, and zinc lozenges. If you are taking antibiotics, also supplement with Lactobacillus acidophilus and Bifidobacteria. Garlic capsules can also be helpful.

Best of health to you

Cheers

I would go to the ER if I were in your position. Even though the ER is more expensive than going to a doctors office. This is your day off and you sound really sick. Good luck!

If i were you I would. It sounds like you have the signs of it. Even if you don't they can give you some medication that could make you feel better.
