No fever, just a sore throat (I think) & a runny nose. Its been 3 days since he has really ate more than 3-4 bites in a sitting. I have given him lots of pediasure & hot ovaltine.. but I would like to get him eating solids again. Please offer suggestions of what you like when you feel yucky:

(my mom gave us ice cream! .....I love you mom)

don't worry about him not eating right now as long as he is getting lots of fluids ..he will eat when hungry..
just offer him lots of small little meals during the day almost like snacks.

If he/she has a runny nose, ice cream is probably not great. I'm not sure how true it is, but I have always heard that milk products help your body create mucus, and I have found that it is true with me, so when I am congested, I find that cutting out milk products helps.

As for getting him/her to eat, I agree with the last answer - as long as your child is getting fluids, I was always told not to worry - the child will eat when he/she is hungry. By the way, in addition to Pediasure, I was told that Gatorade is also good - and it comes in so many flavors these days.

Have you tried some of his/her favorite foods? My mom always used to give us hot dogs when we wouldn't eat anything else (but if he/she is only 2.5, don't forget to cut the circles in half or quarters). Salty tends to taste better to me when I have a cold - probably because the taste is more pronounced, and your taste buds dull when you have a cold.

Good luck. I hope your child feels better.

As long as you keep fluids going into him and he doesn't have a weight problem I would not worry about eating right now.
I would buy a vaporizer, use Vick's vapor bath, and provide a relaxing atmosphere for him...
If he developes a fever or gets worse I would take him to the doctors.

Think about when we as adults are sick.. We don't really want to eat.. I wouldn't pressure him to eat right now.. Maybe a few crackers if he wants, but he'll let you know when he's hungry.. He's not going to starve himself.. Good luck
