i brought a compaq tower off ebay, when it arrived, i tried doing all the ususl updates, security, media player, and such like, and when asked to validate the version, was told it may be dodgy. i contacted ebay, who have since investigated and found the seller had done this with several p.c.s. so i then brought a xp pro oem meant for dell p.c. and was told it would work in any p.c. but when i tried to activate it, got a message that i had entered the wrong product key. do you know what i can do?

Yes:

Stop buying second rate horsesh*t off eBay.

Do you not learn!? Surely the alarm bells should have been ringing from the first transaction?

As a modern-day consumer, how have you not realised that if you spend less, you almost ALWAYS end up spending more.

Perhaps that version of XP you have is an illegal copy. If it is, you now have the huge headache of trying to sort it out, spending god knows how much time for the best part of £20.

You could pick up a brand new, official copy for about £50 from a registered, insured business (like ebuyer.com) for that amount too.

hey Bobby T...I am sure this person really wanted you to come on here and give that speach as an answer. Internet tough guy, people like you make it hard to ask simple questions. You suck.

as for the original question...i would contact Microsoft as everyone else has suggeted. Before you do that be sure to keep trying that serial.

I have experienced this problem too for a software. Read the product code very carefully as sometimes zeroes look like the letter O and vice versa. And perhaps the number one looks like the letter L. Be sure to type caps and small letters as they are written. Well you get the idea. .. Good Luck

Although Microsoft are sticklers for piracy and production registration, they also will not think twice sending you a brand new copy of Windows if you explain to them what you just explained to us. I was in a similiar situation and MS took care of the issue by sending me a brand new copy complete with hologram.

Hope this helps!

Contact microsoft and tell them what's happened and they will probably give you a free copy of XP if you name the seller.

Download an XP keygen program. It may be illegal but it works, if not then i've never sinned.
