Troop `surge' last hope for Bush?
U.S. president faces calls to flood Iraq with forces
May be chance to claim he brought stability to nation

WASHINGTON BUREAU
WASHINGTON—In a country convulsed with the search for a way out of Iraq, a new buzzword is suddenly competing with the clamour for phased withdrawals, strategic redeployments and drawdowns.
Surge.
It may seem counterintuitive, but there are calls — including one from the man who could be the next U.S. president — to flood Iraq with thousands more American troops, a so-called surge, in one last bid to win a war that looks more and more unwinnable.
Such a short-term surge of troops could be the last gasp for U.S. President George W. Bush to claim he at least brought stability to Iraq, enough stability to declare victory, get out of the country with some honour and close the history books on a mission which fell far short of his lofty goal of exporting democracy to the Middle East.

He is trying to do whats right under the best of his ability, however no matter how he handles this war the man cant do a thing right. The libs called for removal of Rumsfeld and when Bush got rid of him then the libs whined about that.As long as we have people like you that continue to see this mission as a failure,we dont need communists from other countries coming in,we have plenty here.

If we had put more troops in at the beginning we might have had a chance not be in so much trouble as we are now. Hey look these people have been fighting each other for hundreds of yrs and to think a country like the U.S.A can come in and change the minds of these people in just a few yrs by a country they feel has invaded and occupy there country.
As for the best interest for the President his best interest would be to get us out of this war with rising the death toll make the Iraq's new Army start stepping up to help their country out of this war but the U.S.army on stick force only just to help then get out of the war

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Some kind of decisive and different action needs to happen and even then the outcome is uncertain. Rather than winning the war maybe the best outcome is to result from stabilizinng Iraq enough so neighboring Middle East nations can provide a combined security force - that can operate long after the US declared victory and got its forces out. Maybe this surge can provide the support neccessary to allow this transition to happen..... I still think Iraq will divide into 2 or 3 separate independant regions.

He "controlled" to graduate from Yale through fact of his father's ability and money. it is the clarification he have been given into the school interior the 1st place. Noelle Bush, daughter of Florida governor Jeb Bush (and George's niece), "controlled" to graduate from Florida State Univesity regardless of not often attending training, and receiving grades that would have failed maximum different scholars. She replaced into in drug rehab for 3/4 of her senior 12 months and nonetheless controlled a "B" known. certainly everyone knows you in no way fail the governor's youngster, i be attentive to for a certainty a minimum of two professor's (non-tenured)have been threatened with termination whilst they tried to fail her. seem it up interior the Tallahassee Democrat. Aslo, no offense to the business enterprise grad's obtainable, yet an MBA from ANY college isn't in all probability all that onerous to get. i'm no longer asserting it is person-friendly, regardless of the undeniable fact that it certainly does not require an astounding sort of intelligence. Bush has misplaced plenty money in very ill-conceived business enterprise ventures, i ask your self how everyone could cite his degree as info of intelligence? I call Bush no longer basically incompetent, yet stupid as properly. he's stupid through fact he certainly beleive's his very own bullshlt. He somewhat theory the Iraqi's would welcome the U. S. with open palms. He somewhat does think of he's doing "God's paintings", and it in no way occours to him that perchance he's incorrect. once you beleive your individual BS, you're stupid.

i think there is more to it than meets the eye... as is always the case with politics. one of the outstanding issues is iran, where israel have clearly stated they will go for a pre emptive strike. with this in mind, bush will want more forces availble in case support is needed.... by getting commitment for the plan, it will really depend on who the next president is as to when israel will go for iran.
what is clear is that stratigically iraq is too important to pull troops out from, as from iraq you have access to alot of countries. you can literally pick and choose where you want to spread your bloody (literally) democracy next.

No additionally troops will solve the problem of a disfunctional Iraqi society. More troops will only mean than-just an addition of more troops with little or no effect on the outcome.

It isn't a matter of what is in *Bush's* best interest, it is what is going to solve the problem. "Stay the course" simply isn't going to work. The US either has to get tough or get out.
Bush has a MANDATE from the elections to change Iraq policy.
