I think the main reason is that it's very difficult to make a round box.
The question could be: why is a pie round and not square?

Easy to remove the pie from the box. And how on earth would someone make a round box for the restaurant industry? That'd be expensive, hard to store and stack, etc...

It is easier to make a square box than a round one. If it was round it wouldn't be a box.!!!

square boxes are easier to store (they fold flat) and easier to stack
