The only medical reference to loss of fingernails in childhood is by injury. Nevertheless, there is reference towards families; loss of nails can be due to injury, overexposure to X-ray, and Syphilis (severe secondary).

However, lititure does not give a percise explaination for loss of nail(s) in this severe secondary stage of syphilis, and neither does nausea or/and vomiting. In concideration of pain, pain in the bones and joints are additional symptoms of this secondary stage in this desperate attempt by the body to rid itself of the disease once and for all.

If not treated, the disease can develop into a late stage of tertiary syphilis, which causes cardiac death, moronic premature senility, blindness, deafness, deformities, locomotor ataxia, and various invalidism. It is necessary to have this child sent in for testing, especially because, in its late stage syphilis affects and destroys the heart, aorta, brain, eyes, the central nervous system, the spine, bones, skin, testes, stomach, larynx, trachea - no vital organ is immune.

There is no lab studies - here online - that can confirm that your daughter have or do not have congenital syphilis: primary or secondary, it may only be as a result of some type of infection, but there is too great of risk to assume that she doesn't. Medical care costs, but it is much cheaper to pay for a doctor's visit, than pay the price of not.

Hope this answers your question!
