Some christians say that homosexuality is unnatural and that God ordained marriage between a man and a woman. However, not everyone is Christian so those tenents don't hold true for them. So basically, that means they are trying to impose their views on how society should be on everyone regardless of belief. Is it right for one religion to set the social tone for a country when the country has no official religious belief?

They couldn't care less about other religions or the American ideal for that matter. They, indeed, have an agenda.

“The long-term goal of Christians in politics should be to gain exclusive control over the franchise. Those who refuse to submit publicly to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church's public marks of the covenant - baptism and holy communion - must be denied citizenship, just as they were in ancient Israel.”
Gary North - Political Polytheism: The Myth of Pluralism (1989)

“I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good... Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a biblical duty, we are called on by God to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism.”
Randall Terry - The News Sentinel, (Fort Wayne, Indiana), August 16, 1993.

So what? Most religions are against homosexuality anyway. Doesn't have to be Christians.

From a social perspective, of course the social tone will be set by the majority (and we're not talking about just one religion here) and not from what's official or not. That's why it's the *social* tone. No laws against it.

But I say legalize gay marriage in America. It's damn hypocritical to accept premarital sex (unless you're in denial. This acceptance is a cultural phenomenon happening in your country, admit it) and not acknowledge gay marriage.
Besides reproduction shouldn't really be a problem anymore.

There is much more to it then that... 1 + 1 = 2 that is a fact & can not be argued. Coke VS Pepsi is an opinion & can be argued. With this opinion it really has no affect on our social fabric tho.

Should you be able to have as many spouses as you want? Should drugs be legal? Should you be allowed to have sex with animals? Should abortions be legal? The death sentence? Should adults be allowed to have sex with childern? Should gay/lesbian marriages be legal? These are all opinions that do need an answer.

While I am not a very religous person, it does seem the bible is a good source to turn to for topics such as these as it has strong values & good guidelines. It should not be the only source, but it is a good one. Keep in mind that it is not just people who thump the bibal are against it. So spiritually 100% think it is wrong. Biologically 100% think it is wrong. Socially 60% think it is wrong (for others the number would be in the 90% range if asked about their children).

Since it is an "opinion" it will & can always be argued. There are not more people for it. Just like everything else, the people who want it are more vocal about it. I think if polled 90% of the populace would say, given the chioce they would hope their childern are strait at the time of their birth. I don't think religion plays as big a factor as you might think.

The implication of allowing things like gay marriage, abortion, divorces etc are horrendous if you consider what this does to family values. The Christian belief doesn't support such factors.

Look at a traditional family with a Mother & Father. There is a balance in raising of kids. Kids get emotional security, they grow up to be stable citizens & teach their values to their kids again and so on.
Take away a parent due to divorce, and there is a upset in this balance. Kids have sex without being married, they get pregnant, allow legal abortion, and once again an upset in the balance of family values.
Bring in legal gay marraiges, what do you think would be the value of a family, especially when they are allowed to adopt kids. What are the values of these kids going to be.
What will be next when you allow gay marraiges? Maybe allowing bigamy, maybe then allowing one to marry his favourite animal.

It's not about Christians imposig their views on society, it is what values will this society bring forth. We need to think further than our own selfish nature.

That's just the thing - the gov't WON'T recognize a civil ceremony with the same rights as marriage BECAUSE OF YOU PEOPLE SAYING IT'S WRONG. When you have nothing to go on but your damn book.

I've asked similar questions here before, and all I ever get is 'god says it's wrong, so we'll try to save their souls by making it illegal.' Some people need to wake the hell up - including our current politicians.

Some Christians seem to believe that the US should be a Christian nation. These are the ones absolutely believe that the country should be run based on their beliefs, and that their religion is the right one.

Yup, the christians want all of us to twist our lives into what THEIR religion calls for. Pretty arrogant. I'm a married heterosexual and don't feel that my marriage is in any way endangered by my gay and lesbian friends being married, too. We need to get serious about separation of church and state.

Thanks for putting the issue into such a clear summary.

God's Laws are also the laws of nature and regardless weather or not you believe in the Christian God or not Natural law still rules and homosexuality is against the laws of nature. The reason there are men and women (male and female) is for procreation, the survival of the species and as gays do not procreate in a natural manner they are therefore unnatural and against the basic laws of nature. Please note that I said procreate in a natural manner, various methods of artificialy creating life and then raising the children resulting in such a method of pregnancy is unnatural and raising children in a homosexual relationship is both unnatural and unfair to the child.

Homosexuals want to live their perverted lifestyle but want to be considered normal, but they ain't normal and they must pay the pprice. this must seem unfair to some but that is the way it sshould be!

Marriage is a religious institution.

Most of the time, homosexuals want to be married in a Christian church ceremony.

God's Word clearly says homosexuality is a sin, the same as lying, murder, theft, etc.

So, why do you homosexuals want to shove your beliefs into our religion? You are trying to force Christianity to change your sinful lifestyle as okay with God, and it isn't.

We Christians would feel the same if a group that lived a lifestyle that was sinful to God, and promoted themselves so they were identified strickly by that sin, tried to force us to accept their lifestyle as okay. So, we reject sin as being okay, not you as people. Don't try forcing us to accept your sins as acceptable.

Go get a civil ceremony marriage. The government may recognize it, but God won't.

As it stands it's not the Christians imposing their beliefs, it's the others trying to change or impose (as you say ) their beliefs on us.
The law has always been man and women, Christians are NOT trying to change anything, others are.
