the sudden change in food is probably part of the problem
neither food is considered good quality (both use too many fillers such as corn, wheat, by-products which are beaks feet and feathers) in fact all foods from grocery store or Wal Mart are low quality
YUCCA is a good ingredient for odor reducing.. but if you switched for foods suddenly then that is most of the problem
good for you for getting from an organization though...

RE:
My new kitten is farting a lot and it smells really bad is this normal?
We just got a six month cat yesterday and she started tooting and it smells really bad. She still is today. She was being fed purina kitten chow at the animal organization and but we fed our other cat iams and fed the new cat it too. As soon as we brought her home she started farting. Is this...

Changing diets this rapidly can cause digestive problems for any age cat. The ideal way to handle this for the kitten would be to mix small ammounts of Iams into the kitten food and gradually increase the ammount of Iams and decrease the ammount of kitten food (gradually as in over several days). If you can't do this, the digestive problems should resolve in a few days. Meanwhile, make sure the cat is going to the bathroom and not constipated.

Cat farts can smell really bad and is likely the result of changeing food or something in the food that bothers her digestive system because it is adult cat food. You can wait this out or change the diet back to Purina Kitten Chow it this helps your problem is solved.

it is almost certainly the food. Pick another brand and try that - preferably a wet food as a diet of exclusively dry biscuits is extremely bad for cats, leading to all sorts of kidney, liver and other problems, quite apart from being far to high in carbohydrates. Some biscuits in the diet are fine as they help to keep the teeth clean, but you really should be feeding mostly wet food. If the problem continues with another brand of food, see a vet.

Yes, it's probably the food that's causing the farts and odor so you need to change to a different brand. If the next brand causes the same problem, talk to someone at the pet store for suggestions - they do make special diet foods for cats/kittens with food allergies.

It is possibly due to the sudden change in environment and the kitten is justifiably nervous. This could be a cause for internal upset. Changes in diet are a more common cause, but if it persists, it could be a digestive problem that needs to be addressed by a vet.

It sounds like your cat has a sensitive tummy. Try changing your food-upon a vets advice.
