Can anyone give me an idea about what CB Radio would be a good unit to by. I have seen a Midland Unit 40 channels for £50. To be honest i dont need all the bells and whistles just a good basic unit will do. Price is important as it will be constantly changed from vehicle to vehicle on a daily basis. I have the ariel, mic, patch cable and SWR meter. Its been a long time since i had my last radio. Help!!

Your best bet would be a Cobra 25. It's relatively inexpensive, small in size, yet has full power, and is a time tested and proven unit. When you get a new radio, make sure you take it to a competent CB shop and have it peaked and tuned, the FCC only allows 4 watts out of the box. Get the Super-tune, this drops your dead key wattage to around 1 or 2 watts, but when you talk, it swings to full power. This will give the dead-key needed for a linear or modulator should you want to run one later, and it will keep you from sounding flat. While there, have them tune your antenna/coax setup on your vehicle. This will have to be done on every vehicle you plan to put the radio in, each different setup will give a different SWR ratio. I suggest putting into each vehicle it's own setup, power cord, bracket, antenna, and coax. The antenna/coax will be tuned to the vehicle, and all you'll have to do is move the radio itself.

you cant use the police antennas on cb radios/the police use fm while the cb is am/go to radio shack and see if they can fit you up/need an swr meter to make sure the antenna and radio match up/this stuff has to be done on site/not many guys around with that knowledge anymore/the hand held radios have knocked a lot out of the business

CB Radio ? those things went out of style since computers became more popular.
(1) Best to get one with the s.w.r. built in if your going to transfer it from auto to auto, that way you don't need to carry a match meter around with you.
(2) Do you have a good antenna ? Wilson 500-1000-2000 or Ltl Will (MAGNET MOUNT) is a good antenna along with a K-40 . If it's spring loaded, check for corrosion inside the spring.
(3) As for price, look around, you may find one for less money with an S.W.R. meter even with upper and lower sideband to boot ! Like I said, these radios went out of style years ago, and you can get a better deal if you look around. I myself have a RANGER - 2510 (WITH A SMART CHIP) and a *R.C.I. - 2970* (*BUILT IN 100 WATT BOOT*) both working perfectly for $ 75.00 dollars each (Canadian) ($65.00 US DOLLARS)

Hope this helps you fellow C.B.'r !

Midland is a good choice but go to www.jcwhitney.com to find some more different types you may consider to buy.
