It depends.. Not everyone's hair is the same. Some people have an oily scalp and some people have more of a dry scalp.... If you have a dry scalp you don't necessarily have to be washing your hair right before you straighten it just make sure you use some shine spray for your hair to give it some shine.."citrus shine" works! But, if you have an oily scalp, you need to wash your hair before straightening it...though the oils your hair release is the healthist and most natural solution for your hair, the smell of your hair won't be so pleasant when combined with heat ;)... so when yu want to straighten your hair use a good conditioner to give your hair an extra shine and smoothness leaving your straight hair looking great!!! let me let you in on a lil secret i do to make my curly, frizzy hair looking smooth and straight!
-----i use the little tube conditioner from the l'oreal hair color.. i kow you dont need to color your hair but the conditioner is awesome!!!
step 1- wash your hair with any shampoo..
step 2- condition your hair, leave the conditioner in your hair..
step 3- once your out of the shower wrap your hair with a plastic bag, wet a towel with luke warm water and place it in the microwave for about 1-2 min.
step 4- wrap the towel around your head and leave on for about 3-4 min.... repeat twice.
step 5- wash the condition off your hair and straighten.. your hair will be as smooth as silk and smelling real nice...!

No, you absolutely do not have to wash your hair before straightening. I straighten my hair every other day. Just make sure that it is all the way dry and it will work. It does help if you wash and blow-dry your hair before straightening and it will look better that way but you don't have to wash it every time.

Straightening how?
With a chemical, - no, your hairs needs to have build up, and better take a chemical straightening when hair/scalp is in need of washing, your scalp is not as vulnerable, and likely to burn.
With a heating device- yes, you want your hair to be fresh and free of residue or dirt, light and fluffy, hair then is more able to take a heat application more readily and quickly.
But in both cases a deep conditioning or GOOD conditioners is highly reccomended.
With chemical, AFTER chemical is applied, and hair is washed.
With heat, BEFORE heat is applied and hair is washed.
I hope this helps.

First off, going to bed with wet hair is a BAD BAD BAD idea, especially if you have wavy hair..trust me, my hair is wavy too. It would make it a lot easier if you blow-dried your hair before bed first. What I use is Herbal Essence Dangerously Straight on each section of my hair as I'm straightening it. It works pretty well. It also helps if you pin up certain sections of your hair if it's layered and start straightening the bottom and work your way up. But the main thing is, make SURE you blow dry before bed, if not, it is VERY hard to get smooth, straight hair. Hope I helped! =)

you dont have to shampoo hair bec straightening solution contains shampoo but you need to wash your scalp before applying the solution bec it will be harder to do so when washing it off. Besides, water will protect your scalp from getting burned from the soln.
