A handfasting is a very beautiful ceramony. But it is not recognised by law. Do I care? No, as long as I'm not jailed for something "they" don't believe in. I think our country and it's laws should support any couple wanting to make a commitment! Regardless of any personal or religious viewpoints.

I feel compelled to answer since you quoted me. I have no problem with any straight couple of any faith getting married, that is within my religion. And where did I say that what they were doing should be illegal? I personally feel that what they do in the privacy of their own homes is their busness. That's the same reason I don't go up to adulterers and start denouncing them(yes I have known a few adulterers). I can tell them and or show them I don't approve of what they do, but it is not my place, even Biblically, to stop them from doiing whatever the choose. I believe in the religious concept of marriage as between a man and a woman. Anything else profanes and degrades the concept. That is why the use of the term marriage offends me. If they want to call it something else, domestic partnership or civil union etc, go for it. But not marriage.

Atheism is an abomination to God but if two atheists get married that's not an abomination. Better than screwing around outside marriage.
Islam and Judaism have missed the crucial point about Jesus' salvation but at least they acknowledge God.
What you like to call homophobia is not a phobia. A phobia is an irrational fear. If I think something is wrong it doesn't mean I have an irrational fear of it. Do you have a kleptophobia if you try to stop someone stealing from you? Is it a paedophobia if you think children should be protected from paedophiles? If I object to you dumping your trash in the street, does that make me a garbageophobe?
Grow up.

There are many, many holes in the anti-gay marriage argument, like you are pointing out.
The only thing conservative Christians can say is that The Bible (when read literally) says being gay is bad; therefore gay marriage is bad. Of course, eating pork is also forbidden in the book of Leviticus (where the "abomination" word comes from). Why do so many Christians eat pork?
To each his/her own. Jesus said to love God and love others; many of my Christian friends have a tough time with Jesus' most important teachings.

Very thought provoking question! I think the issue lies with gays who want to have a christian wedding ceremony despite the fact that their sexuality violates the Bible? Well no one can deny that we are to an extent homophobic because we often fear what we do not understand. But how do you classify an 'atheist' marriage?
how can we satisfactorily conclude if two people are atheist as opposed to whether two people are gay? i believe that this is the reason atheist marriages are not cricized as much.. :)

It is nothing but the protection of the sanctity of marriage.Something that can only occur between a man and a woman sorry,,,that`s the way it has been is meant to be and always will be. Homosexuals just like to immitate real relationships. Somthing wrong with calling the union between two homosexuals a civil union? It`s not a marriage.

"Homophobia" is a code word to silence speech against a social agenda. Through slurs and slander anyone opposed to the politically correct agenda items is "labeled" as a radical.
Civil Law declared constitutionally that marriage was between one man and one woman during the polygamy trials of Utah and Mormonism.
The US Supreme courts ruled that marriage was a "states rights" issue that is better resolved at the most local level. Nearly all the states ratified their constitution to declare constitutionally what the definition of marriage is in each particular state.
To open this door to one group and deny the rights of others to marry as they please is the clearest form of elitism and bigotry.
Do we allow those of Islamic faith to marry many women, the Mormons to marry many women, for individuals to marry to pets?
I believe the states are settling these questions now.

I am a Christian who lives according to the word of God to the best of my abilities, and am in complete support and agreement of every aspect of His word.
Why would someone get "married" which is a union that is ordained by God, if you did not believe or accept Him and His laws? Only God can join a man and a woman together and it be recognized by God as a marriage. The Jews are God's chosen people, in case you weren't aware of that fact.
Mark 10:9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder
IF a person does not believe in God who is the only one who can join a man and a woman in wed lock, He will not be at that ceremony. Who shall that wedding be in the presence of??? The devil perhaps?

Only homosexuality is called an abomination by God, not the others you mention.
Marriage is a religious institution.
Most of the time, homosexuals want to be married in a Christian church ceremony.
God's Word clearly says homosexuality is a sin, the same as lying, murder, theft, etc.
So, why do you homosexuals want to shove your beliefs into our religion? You are trying to force Christianity to change your sinful lifestyle as okay with God, and it isn't.
We Christians would feel the same if a group that lived a lifestyle that was sinful to God, and promoted themselves so they were identified strickly by that sin, tried to force us to accept their lifestyle as okay. So, we reject sin as being okay, not you as people. Don't try forcing us to accept your sins as acceptable.
Go get a civil ceremony marriage. The government may recognize it, but God won't.
