marriage if those getting married don't plan on having children?

I pick on Christians because it is from Christians that I hear that arguement. If other religions use that arguement then I apologize to them for leaving them out of this question.

Yeah, I hear this all the time. So my grandfather, who got married at age 80 when his (third) wife was well past menopause, must have been a really great sinner. My best friend just had to have a hysterectomy - does that make it a sin for her to sleep with her husband? It's not just those who don't PLAN on having kids - there are those who simply are not physically able to have kids. Are their marriages invalid?

Question Man: Marriage is not just a religious thing. It is also a legal status. I don't believe churches should be required to marry anyone if its against their beliefs, but civil marriage confers many legal benefits and should be available to all committed couples.

That's not the reason why most Christians are against it.

The Biblical reason: God made woman for man...it's His plan and it's that simple.

The Social reasons: Marriage is NOT a right. Governments GIVE special rights or benefits to benefitial activity. Having a man and woman come together to propriate is only one benefit. Homosexual sex is dangerous to individuals and society. Check out life expectancy statistics for the average male homosexual. Why would any government want to promote and endorse a unhealthy lifestyle?

First of all, not all Christians feel that way. I am a Christian and I have no problem with people being gay. I don't think that they have a choice in the matter. The only choice they have is to abstain from relationships altogether, and most people don't want to be alone. If they try to be with someone of the opposite sex, to them that is like us being with someone of the same sex. It feels wrong for them. Why would I want to judge someone for something that they have no control over? That doesn't sound very Christian to me. And I believe God made them as they are.

Marriage is a religious institution.

Most of the time, homosexuals want to be married in a Christian church ceremony.

God's Word clearly says homosexuality is a sin, the same as lying, murder, theft, etc.

So, why do you homosexuals want to shove your beliefs into our religion? You are trying to force Christianity to change your sinful lifestyle as okay with God, and it isn't.

We Christians would feel the same if a group that lived a lifestyle that was sinful to God, and promoted themselves so they were identified strickly by that sin, tried to force us to accept their lifestyle as okay. So, we reject sin as being okay, not you as people. Don't try forcing us to accept your sins as acceptable.

Go get a civil ceremony marriage. The government may recognize it, but God won't.

Thats not really why they are against it, its just an argument they use.

The REAL reason is because God ordained marriage between man and woman, God basically created it, so to change it now would be to go against God.

If they used that as their only argument, they'd lose, so they have come up with more, like the procreating thing.

Seriously, I thank God Abraham wasn't homosexual!! He was a righteous man (that means homos can't fit the description of righteous so please don't tell me God doesn't care and you are a Christian homo as there is no such thing) who dragged his nephew Lot's hide and his family out of Sodom and Gomorrah, the only survivors you archeologists will ever record from that fiasco! I'm not sure what Lot's wife thought she would miss and looked back at but boy that was dumb!

Not all would agree on this. But even if they don't plan on having children, the possibility does exist. Even with older people and people who have had some surgeries. Miracles can happen. Haven't heard of any miracles like that with same sex couples.

I think that those who are against same sex marriage are not against it because it can't procreate but they are against it because it is un-natural.

Not to the same level, but they are, as it is every woman's duty to bear children (I heard some guy rant on about this, thus my knowledge on the matter)
