Have any of the Drs. ordered any tests? If it is a bulging disc or bone spur, an MRI would show that. If an MRI comes back negative, then it is something else.
Ask your Dr. for a referral to a neurologist. That will be the best bet in getting accurate testing, diagnosis and treatment.
I have a bulging disc and bone spur and it is horribly painful. My family Dr. was unable to find a problem, but the neurologist immediately ordered an MRI and the problem was spotted.

Good Luck!

It is sad as this is my profession but physicians in the US have a poor track record when it comes to listening to a person's problem. If it is not life threatening or will not make the physician a lot of money they do not have much interest. Neck pain is very common and in the vast majority of cases is not due to bone spurs or bulging discs. The diagnosis is nearly always made after a history and examination so if someone wants to order tests you may be wise to find another physician.

You need to get an MRI to verify the doctor's suspicions. If you have any pain or numbness in the arms or hands it would seems more like bulging discs. For an acute problem-you initially need rest. Lie down on your back several times a day with ice under your neck. Do not sleep on your stomach.
Do not do any heavy lifting-it will just aggravate the pain. Take ibuprofen 3 times a day (with food).
If the symptoms get worse-see a good neurosurgeon.
I have been in your situation. I wish you luck.

One thing you have to be aware of. Anytime there is pain, there is also a tightening of the muscles to reduce the amount of motion. It becomes imperative that you attempt to reduce this contracture of muscle in the neck with appropriate stretches.. In most instances, there is unequal muscle tension. Primarily having an effect of one side. There will be restricted rotation of the head. The symptoms will reduce when those muscles are stretched out but does not correct the problem. Would suggest you visit a doctor of chiropractic and get an evaluation and an accurate diagnosis. Treatment there may or may not be advised. Depending on what he finds.

Have you ever been in an auto accident or were injured playing a sport? I would suggest getting an MRI. This is the best, quickest and most reliable test to see what your condition really is. If it is bulging discs, you will need to get an epidural through pain management. It really is a miracle cure!! I felt like I was going to die until I had it done.

Take care and good luck!!
