With the tax exempt statous, it would seem to be very profitable! Otherwise, there would be alot less Evangalists on TV!

Generally speaking, the 'organization' of Christianity, as well as many other religions, has a long and sordid history of being highly profitable.
In my opinion, the Vatican is a dinosaur of immeasurable power and corruption whose day of reckoning is (hopefully) close at hand.
I am a deeply spiritual person who believes the true measure of any belief lies in the act of Living its teachings. Too many individuals and organizations use religion as a mask for actions that are an abomination by genuine religious standards.
This question really "hit a nerve" for me and I could go on a huge rant about the whole structure and real intent behind many organizations that dupe innocent believers.... But it would be pointless.
All I can hope is that folks are beginning to see the difference between taking personal responsibility for living their religious beliefs and blindly following some charismatic 'leader' full of nicely dressed dogma and questionable motives.

All "religion is man invented. Many are indeed just for the worldly profit. No coubt about it.... as to the Roman Catholics... I am not one...very much opposed to them... but it is a mis understanding today about the "wealth" of the RCs... They do have some fantastic historical artifacts worth a very great deal... and there is nothing wrong with that. They should be preserved for history. But the cult it's self is barely scraping by...by world business standareds... The Vatican dose not "own most of the properties around the world...they are oend by the local orginizations... some are doing bettter finacialythatn others of course but ...as to the "wealth" there is not thast much by international business standards...
I guess I should state my faith...I am of The True Christian Faith... and I am not a fan of the mega "churches" and all of the flaunting of worldly material stuff they do... so long as one of The Flock is hungry the "pastor" shoud not be wearing a $5,000.oo suit... and riding in a limo.

I believe it's more about "power" than profit.
In order to gain financially, you must first have power when speaking about religion. Religion, unlike any other kind of business where goods and services are marketed, must have converts in order to remain profitable. The more "people" you have, the more followers, the more you are able to create the potential for not only monetary profit, but political gain. Given the church's history, power in a political sense has been as valuable to them, perhaps even more so, than money. Consequently, there is more to the Jesuit statement,
"Give me the boy at 7 and at 14, I'll show you the man,"
than is seen on the surface.

I don't believe religious organizations are actually non-profit; do you? When one looks at the wealth they have amassed It becomes glaringly obvious that they are in it for the money. As well as for the power they hold over peoples minds. Unfortunately they prey on the confused, on the gullible and credulous of our population as well as those running for public office who espouse Christian or other religious values and then run our country into the ground with wars, steeling, lying and basically undemocratic activities. For some reason we have been deferential to anyone who says they are a religious person or a religious organization and as a result they are the richest organizations on earth. In England and Germany part of your income taxes by law go to the church even if you are not a member. To me this is organized bullying and theft to take money from me in any form for something that I don't want to support. By being a so called non-profit organization, that is supposed to help people, and many of these organizations do help people or at least appear to help; but we all know that they are keeping most of the money for themselves. They should be taxed like everybody else.

Forget the gold in the Vatican. If the Roman Catholic Church were to sell just a quarter of the art works that are in storage at the Vatican and distribute the wealth to the World's starving, it would end World hunger.
I am not anti-Roman Catholic, I am anti-all organised religion. It is all just about power, greed and abuse.

You have to test the spirit of God when you give, if that's what you mean and yeah sure there are greedy ones out there, but they have to answer to God.
As long as you're doing what's right, leave it to him to judge them.

It is for televangelists, no doubt. They wouldn't do it at all if they weren't in it for the money. Greedy SOBs.
Yeah, the catholic church is scummy. Don't even get me started on it.
