Why do some christians who really love God, pray daily, study the Bible, and are very nice people 90% of the time, resort to cursing when they become angry or are involved in a conflict, and end up having to pray for forgiveness over and over? Isn't profanity a sin? I don't think Jesus ever cursed. Does this mean they really aren't Christians, or can they really have a strong belief in God, but just have a bad temper. A quick temper isn't the sign of a saint is it?

When I say curse, I'm referring to profanity and four letter words.

Gwhiz1052 and TheQuestionMan all those who believe in Christ, and/or are believers are Saints. Contrary to what many believe, being a Saint, does not mean someone has to be a pastor, deacon, priest, ect. Also, to Father K, what Jesus expressed in the temple was a righteous anger based on God's Biblical teaching, and it's true that Jesus was descriptive with his words when he spoke in anger, but he did not use the equivalent of four letter words such as: s**t, MF, f**k, ect. in superficial disagreements or arguments.

You are getting smart! You have found a way to identify false Christians; hypocrites. However, those false Christians do not give non-Christians any excuses for their sins! If you think you can do a better job, I challenge you to become a Christian (if you are not) and show the rest of us what the mark of a true Christian spirit is!! If you are saved, thanks for bringing this up for "out of the abundance of the heart a man speaketh!" It is cheap grace and imitation salvation without a sanctified life to go with it! Somebody say AMEN?!

I can't speak for anyone else but I became a Christian at age 42. I think the last time I used a swear word was when I first started driving again and it was because my "old man" took control for a moment. When someone becomes a Christian the Holy Spirit starts the process of sanctification that results in a person being conformed to the image of Jesus. But all the while that life long process is going on the "old man" of the flesh is resisting the work of the Spirit and if people are not "walking in the Spirit" they can stumble upon occasion, one result being the use of profanity.

Romans 8:29 For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.

Ephesians 4:21 If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: 22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; 23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; 24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

ALthough I wish that once I became a believer that my sin nature just disappeared, it did not.

I still have the same sin nature and tendancy to think of myself above others that I have always had.

What we strive towards is control of that sin nature by letting God lead us instead of ourselves.

Yes, especially when angered, our sin nature has a way of rearing its ugly head and we lose control and curse and say mean spiteful words that serve only to hurt another.

A saint according to the bible is not a perfect person by any means. A saint is simply another word for a believer in God and all that he has done, all that he is doing, and all that he will yet do.

Yes, you can come to know God just as you are, he will complete the good work that he has begun in you. It will not be complete until you take your last breath on this earth.

Well, first off Christians do not profess to be Saints.I wish I were
but I am not.I am not sure exactly what You mean by curse, If you mean the F word and those related to that,Then I curse, I
do not find that a evil sin,{though not very ladylike} they are man made words. If You mean taking the Lords name in vain, that is
a different story, that I will not do,and it actually hurts me in my stomach ,when someone does.

Why do you ASSUME they are Christians?

People can love God, but not accept Jesus as their Lrod and Savior.

Christians are the ones who don't curse. They pray for God to guide them always.

Love of God does not make anyone perfect, or saint like. Love and belief in God does not make us sinless.

Ever seen the bumper sticker "Not perfect, just forgiven"? Thats the answer.

The answer is imperfection.
Human weakness.
Have you never read the struggle described at Romans 7:18 - 23

He would point out what Peter said 2Pe 3:15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you; 2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

Nobody's perfect, are you perfect? We all sin and fall short daily, but we are to strive to be more like Christ each and every day.

He not only washes our sins away, when we truly repent, he also takes any habit away from us if one trusts him to do so. If we hang on to things, he can't get through to us.

no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes once in a while. Christians shouldn't curse and the ones that do should try to correct them selves
