Family, meaning your wife and kids or siblings and parents? If its the wife and kids, are you coming back? Will you make more money of you do this? Really, do it and come back. Everyone benefits. If its siblings and parents, no question, do it.

I'm assuming that the family you speak of is parents and not wife and children. If it is your wife and children you should not leave them.
I am also assuming that you're and adult pursuing a career, If this is true you're old enough to make the decision that will shape the rest of you're life. With that said, and if your family is family is healthy and they're not dependent on you for there care or well being. I would suggest that you follow your life's dreams. As time goes buy, your dreams may bring you closer to home and there is no place in this world that is not less than a days travel should something come up that required your presence with your family.
Do they support you in your endeavors? If so there is no question, Go. If they don't, it is still your life and as an adult you have to make your own hard decisions and I would suggest you focus on your personal goals. Keeping in mind that staying close to your family may be one of those goals. That is only said because I know in some cases some parents may try to keep you near home regardless or your wishes or whats best for you, I hope that's not the case with you.
For me, it would be to follow my dreams and advance my education.

My friend, it's our dreams we must follow in order to have a future and life's experiences.
Sometimes though, like if the family members can't get along or by with your adventures and studies, then maybe just put off the dreams a little while. BUT if your family know it's the best for you to get out there in the world, then do it!!
We all should and must leave the nest at one time.
Good luck to youand your studies. Make ma & pa happy!

I do not believe that you are either selfish or wrong? Everyone has dreams, and you cannot feel totally fulfilled or totally happy if you do not reach for them. In life, there are always situations where you do have to make sacrifices if the rewards are worth it. They are your family, and you probably mean a lot to them...so, they should support you in your decision to go to Australia. Talk to your family about your thoughts. I believe that that would resolve your dilemma.

Every person has to leave their family to make a place in the world for themselves. Your parents did it and now its your turn to follow your own dreams. Its best to do it now because the oppurtunity won't come again when you can easily leave.

Are you talking about your family like you're the child, and you're talking about family as your parents and siblings, or are you married with children? If you're the child, go for it! You have to spread your wings and fly...if you're married with children, that's different..but there are ways to sacrifice to make a better life for yourself and them...you wouldn't be gone forever but is it feasible for you to do it...consider all pros and cons i suppose...good luck to you.

You'll always be family, no matter what decision you make. People make decisions like this all the time and people just have to adjust.
