Hello. - Put the walnut behind your back left car tire on a down slope, just barely touch the gas in reverse. That will do the job and you will not lose any walnut meat.

One year I used my husbands vice in his shop. It was time consuming but it worked great and it didn't smash my fingers like when I tried to use a hammer.
