Have your Family Doctor refer you to a Osteopathic specialist that specifically deals with the hand to shoulder. Tingling and numbness our symptoms of nerve damage, but they are most likely being caused by a problem in this area and less likely to be a symptom from elsewhere. Neurologists tend to be more nerve sensory specific and the brain it self. I'm not saying that you should rule this out, but you should investigate the more common sources 1st and by that, see you normal family doctor 1st and proceed from there. They know your medical history much better than the faceless professionals in the hospitals and may have a better idea of preliminary causes for this condition you are experiencing.

Definately see a neurologist. If your insurance allows self-referral - use it and see one.

If typical pain medication doesnt work, then you may have nerve pain. If that is the case, then you have to find out why you have it and an MRI with and without contrast is what you need to have done. Insurance may say you have to have a CT scan but that is procedure, so just go get it done and if nothing shows up then you will go to the next step which is an MRI. Make sure it is with and without contrast, complain and moan if the doc says its just a regular MRI. Some neurological stuff doesnt show up on a regular MRI - you need one with contrast to get a true picture..

Another option, but probably not even worth the effort, is a test that checks your nerves in the area of the pain to determine if the cause is close to that area (like a carpal tunnel problem). however, if pain meds arent working, odds are its spinal or in the brain.

Just keep griping and avoid docs that want to just send you off with typical pain meds - because they are the ones that either dont believe you have real pain and they think you just want the pain medications or they think you are a hypochondriac - or they just dont have a clue and wont admit it.

Also, avoid docs that say there is nothing they can do for nerve pain, there ARE medications that can help lessen the pain. They have to be taken with care (weaned on and weaned off) but they work for a lot of people and its worth trying.

Also, check the site: nmss.org and read up on any other symptoms that you may have that you just overlooked or just dealt with because they may have seemed minor.

I think you need to go back to the hospital as something is not right. Have they done a CT or MRI?

It sounds to me you have a pinched nerve, go to the neuroligist.
He might recomend an MRI scan to find where it is.

You need to see a neurologist. Sounds like a problem with your nerves, which can be tested by a neurologist.

I had numbness & pain before. Medication & therapy did not help me. A supplement marketed by an MLM company was the solution to my problem. My numbness & pain was nutrition related. You can write me at jade_flowershop@yahoo.com if you want to know what I took.
