He's your dad, be honest. say "Dad, i'd love to come, but I'm a bit strapped for cash at the moment".
if he says "Well, i was going to pay anyway, seeing as you paid last time", then you're sorted!

Your dad is returning an invite so I would expect him to pay, but just to be sure, tell him your a bit short of funds at the moment, so does he want to reschedule? and see what he says

A tough one. can you talk to your Mum and explain Mums are usually more understanding.
You could compromise and have a six pack party at home (don't forget drink & drive rules) or offer 50% towards the cost of a dinner. Another idea (if u have own home or even at parents) 0rder in a meal with wine that will cost lots less set up table with candles and decor. Might work. It could be fun and less formal.

Just tell your dad what the situation is. It sounds as if you have a good relationship, and he won't be bothered by your telling him.
If he says he or someone else is paying - fine.
If he can't afford to pay for you, I'm sure he'll tell you.

Tell him you would love to but you really cant afford it at the moment. That will be the opener for him to say "No! This is on me"!
Happy eating!
