Hi Pangel,
Here are some thoughts.
“When enlightened men go on arguing for a long time, there is a distinct possibility that the question is not clear.” -- Voltaire
Noah’s Ark: Some Facts
Maybe the issue is not clear. Are we talking about faith based on a global flood, or faith based on the fact that Noah listened to God? Why was this story included in the Bible?
The story of Noah’s Ark likely occurred, since it was communicated and recorded as a significant event. However, there are aspects of this story that do not make sense on a Global basis. For example, how did all the animals from Australia and the America’s get there? Where did 5 miles depth of water come from and go to? If it rained heavily at 4 inches per hour, it would take 10 years of heavy rain to clear the peak of Mount Everest. How many years did it take for the water to evaporate? Can we show that all the fresh water or saltwater fish died out? How about all the vegetation? How did all this come back? Are there facts in other cultures of a gap and recovery in life?
The Bible is specific that it only rained for 40 days and nights. Although it says the mountains were covered, is specifies the height of the water as 15 cubits, or about 27 ½ feet. This suggests that it rained on average about 1/3 inch per hour, or 8 inches per day for 40 days to increase the water by 27 ½ feet over the world, or in a local valley. If it had been a Global event, then it could be found in archeology, glacier samples, historical records, the life and death of species and many other methods. Physically, it has not been discovered.
This was a difficult way for God to kill everyone except Noah and his family, compared to how He dealt with the immoral people in Sodom and Gomorrah. Those cities and the people were destroyed in 1 day, very precisely.
“Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.” – Albert Einstein
Occam’s Razor
This is an excellent example of how and when to use Occam’s Razor.
“The simplest explanation is the best explanation (one should not increase, beyond what is necessary, the number of entities to explain anything”. -- Occam
To gather all the animals in the world (increases entities since it is unrealistic), and flood the entire world to kill just the local people that were immoral (increases entities since it is over-kill and why would God do that?), appears to be more effort and complex than necessary. A local flood would have done the same job (simpler). Where are there records that the world was flooded and all life died and started over again? The historical records and scientific data do not support an event like this (adds entities). I do not think God made it rain and then manipulated the water supply because he can do miracles (adds entities).
Conjecture:
What can be said? Noah’s world was said to be immoral. During a prayer, or by some means, Noah spiritually (was told by God) discerned that a flood was coming, so he built an Ark. If Noah lived in a valley (an assumption), then his possessions and family were at risk to a flood. When the rains came, Noah loaded the Ark with family and animals. The valley flooded and all the immoral people who lived in it lost their lives. When the waters receded, Noah re-settled.
I think a flood occurred. Our world has big floods and little floods. This is the description of a big flood. I believe when it was verbally communicated it was accurate in the context it was communicated, but not the context we read it. Noah’s world was limited and it would have been unrealistic to say Polar Bears, Penguins, Koala Bears were in the Ark. Who then would have believed the Bible for those animals were unknown, and the Bible would have sounded like mythology?
However, I must admit this truth, all this discussion is pure conjecture. Whether it was a global flood or a local flood, until there is proof, it is a matter of faith.
I believe Noah lived, and he built an Ark that saved his life when a flood happened. Most important, he spitually listened to God!
First test: If the story of the global flood were not in the Bible, would it change my faith? No, it wouldn’t.
Second test: Does the effort to convince people that the story of a global flood is true, by faith, cause them to disdain faith in God? Yes, in many cases it does. If a scientist or anyone has dedicated himself or herself to the truth, and if the facts say one thing with certainty, then how can they accept the opposite, because someone says so? If a scientist accepts issues that do not align with their reason that easily, then, I would question their intellectual honesty.
Then, it is an issue of faith, and should be taught that way. If you understand your beliefs are faith based, then that is intellectually honest. Let people read the bible and decide about Noah and the flood by faith. Teachers need to present options on what the words might mean. They should discuss what science is discovering about God’s creation. Then let people decide by themselves where this leads them.
What is the message?
This story shows that when God speaks to you spirtually, then no matter how hard, embarrassing, or sacrificial, you need to listen to Him. Noah showed great faith in God and acted on God’s message to him. Noah lived according to his principles. I do not think the flood is the lesson. It is Noah’s faith in God, and his actions that are the lesson.
Now pray and discern what Ark God wants you to build, for that will make God happy, you happy, and the world a better place.
“If you want to live a happy life, throw out the thought, ‘how will this seem to others?’ Simply live according to your principles.” – Marcus Aurelius
Just some thoughts.
Take care Pangel, xxx.

Before the flood the earth was enclosed in a kind of bubble of water which acted as, yes, a greenhouse effect. The climate was hot all over the earth, there was no rain but the earth was watered by a mist. The land was all in one place and he climate was very different to that which we experience today.
When the fountains of the great deep were broken up and the windows of heaven were opened the earth suffered cataclysmic upheaval. The greenhouse effect was destroyed and the land was probably broken up forming separate land masses (unless this latter happened in the days of Peleg). The tremendous forces unleashed with mountains being raised up and trenches being formed would have significant effect, not just upon land life but also upon all sea life. The climate and atmosphere were radically and extremely altered, including sea temperatures, currents and food supplies. Vegetation and fertility were significantly altered.
Is it surprising that some species, perhaps many, were unable to survive this massive upheaval and fundamentally different conditions? Even sea life would have been decimated by such forces unleashed. Not all species may have been able to recover especially in the new and very changed conditions. Much sea life would have been stranded on land as the waters subsided, particularly the larger forms.
Only Noah and those with him in the ark were supernaturally preserved, saved.
Which baptism now figures and speaks of - a supernatural salvation through death.
Check this account carefully against the Biblical descriptions.
Of couse, some species naturally go extinct over the passage of time.
Could your question be answered by this account?

Pangel Hello.
I don't think all Christians believe that dinosaurs didn't get on the ark. I for one think they did in the form of eggs and babies, the water thing you said I agree with.
Pangel there are loads of accounts of dinosaurs in history if you look. They called them dragons and other names. The Chinese used to breed them to pull their coaches and chariots in processions. And every culture has tales of these creatures. Pterodactyls were spotted in new guinea and it appears that it was quite a common occurrence. Loads of siteings in the old books such as Tressilia (history of the kings of England) anyway you can look all this stuff up.
It's important to remember that the Ictheosaurus was fished up on the coast of Japan and at the time they even commemorated this with a stamp. All Japanese fishing boats carry a fish expert and this time the expert identified this creature as an unknown creature i.e. was not a whale or shark or squid. Since the carcase was actually rotting it must have been a recent death, this leads people to believe along with other examples that these large creatures still exist all be it rare, and deep in the sea.

If dinosaurs never existed we wouldn’t have our natural resources today. That being said, dinosaurs were long gone before Noah let alone Adam. So there are no ties between dinosaurs and Noah. We don’t know exactly what animals Noah brought, but we do know he did bring more then 2 of some animals, and he did bring most (if not all) the land animals. The real question is why do we have Kangaroos in Australia, and not Africa, or no Tigers in the Americas; when Noah obviously dropped all the animals off in one place?

Do you know they are discovering a vast amount of sea life on a daily basis that we never knew existed before? We cant possibly have knowledge of all the creatures the water bodies on earth must hold, maybe they are still here. Look at Loch Ness, noone can prove or disprove the existence of that.

In Genesis 6:17 God said to Noah I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons' wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them." God didn't say except the dinosaurs, He said every animal that breath air, that includes the dinosaurs. After the flood everything changed for example their habitat and those animals that couldn't adopt to the new environment just die and the rest were extinct by one destructive animal "US" in medieval times when you hear the knights were fighting dragons they were fighting dinosaurs. Until Darwin era people used to to called dinosaurs "dragons"

They went extinct after the flood because the world's climate changed due to all the water the flood produced. In fact, many creationists believe that it was the flood that caused the Ice Age.

Noah didn't save all of the animals... he was very selective... as dinosaurs were around prior to the accepted bible life of 6000 years ago, Noah went Politically Correct on behalf of his boss (God) and omitted the dinosaurs as this would invalid any bible times and make the Christian view of creation look quite shaky...
