Just another one of the many, many, many contradictions, and inconsistencies that exist in the realm of religious beliefs. But what you have to remember is that this type of questions are ones for which you will never find any true answer because -founded upon "faith" any one person's answer is going to be based entirely on that one individual's personal belief, not any kind of clear, unarguable, indisputable evidence. I guess you could say that when it comes to anything relating to faith, each person has to simply find his own answer, or live without one..

I already see a couple of good answers, but I'll take a stab at it. Hell was originally designed for Satan and his demons. However since the original sin of Adam and Eve (they are both at fault mind you) there had to be a need to send sinners to hell because there can be no sin in the presence of God. Basically there can be no darkness in light. In Old Testament times you had The Law. You essentially had to be Jewish to be saved. However now in the New Testament times we have Jesus who died for us and took our well deserver place in hell for us. Romans tells us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. At the same time it is not God's will that anyone should perish (go to hell), so, being the forgiving God that God is He made is simple. Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved. Ask God to forgive you and he will make you clean. However there are those who say they have no need for God, or God does not exist or hate God or just believe in doing things their own way. That's not what God wants us to do. But since we are born under sin and as soon as we are aware of being able to know right from wrong we are subject to hell because of the original sin. Even if we could lead a completely sin free life, Jesus would still have to have died for you because of the original sin. So, for those people who choose to reject God, God has no choice but to place them in hell because God cannot have sin in His presence. I think of the analogy of a teacher giving a student an "F". Does the teacher not like the student? Is he not a forgiving teacher? It's not that, but rather the refusal on the student’s part to do what was required by the teacher. If the teacher gave that same student a passing grade for the exact same circumstances, that would be unjust, not the other way around.

We believe in Paradise and Hell. Paradise is the abode of enjoyment which God, the Exalted, prepared for the righteous. The blessing they enjoy there, no eye has ever seen, no ear has ever heard of, and no human being has ever imagined: "No soul knows what comfort is kept hidden for them, as a reward for that which they used to do." (32:17) Hell is the abode of punishment which God has prepared for the unbelievers and the evildoers. The torture and horror in it cannot be imagined

without it, God would not be the Just and Wise and merciful God He is. God created men and made them responsible for their actions; some behaved well but others did not. If there is no future life in which the virtuous are rewarded and the vicious are punished, there would be no justice and the creation of men in that way and the sending of Prophets to them would be to no purpose at all. But this kind of behaviour is not expected of a man known to be rational and just, let alone the Perfect Creator.

Without belief in this Day on which everyone will receive his just deserts (when the wrongdoers are justly punished and the righteous are rewarded bountifully), man would lose the impetus to behave fairly towards others and the oppressed would grow hopeless and miserable.

Belief in the Hereafter is an essential element that helps to control human delinquency and establish collective happiness and virtues in society.

God will forgive anyone of anything. But do you accept that forgiveness? If you dont... what can He do? Hell is the default, everything will die. BUT There is a promise of eternal life to those that have faith and walk accordingly. God is patient, look at how long he has waited so far. Everyone gets the chance. No one is going to hell on accident, No one is going to hell becuz of God not forgiving them, They are going to hell becuz they -choose- the love of this world over the love of God.

Dear brook, the reason hell exist is because while God is a Loving God, he aslo is the "Just Judge of all the universe." (Romans). You cannot seperate Gods goodness from his Justice and heres why........

Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and we’ve only looked at three of the Ten Commandments.
What a shock! God didn’t see me as the “nice guy” I imagined myself to be… and he doesn’t see you that way either. Nothing you’ve ever done is hid from His holy eyes. Will you be innocent or guilty on the Day of Judgment? Listen to your conscience. You know that you will be guilty, and therefore end up in Hell. That’s not God’s will. He provided a way for you and I to be forgiven.
He sent His Son to take our punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death.
Your own so-called “goodness” can’t get you into heaven any more than mine could. Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He is the "Door," the only "mediator." There is salvation in no other name, and If you and I wil repent (turn from sin) and place our faith and trust in jesus, God will forgive you and grant you the Gift of eternal life. God"s Love is demonstated to us in the fact that while we deserve Hell, He has provided a way of escape,
God Bless

Because God is not a loving God and He does not forgive 'anyone', so there is a need for hell.
God is a God of love, but not always a loving God. He is a Holy God and a just God so He does not tolerate sin, and He meets out justice to all sin.
God does not forgive 'anyone', but only those who come to Him on His terms and submit to His Lordship and receive His gift of salvation.
Everyone else goes to hell.

God is a loving God in fact His love is so profound that it has no boundaries. God wants every soul to be good and to lead a good honest life. But we always falter and commit what is called sin. There fore the God our father who loves us all as his own children has to send us for reincarnation and we will keep coming to this world till we are perfect Our imperfection is - Sex, anger, love of material things, greed and ego. Only those people who live their lives as prostitutes and the like are sent off to the animal world. Why would any one go to Hell. If there was hell who would go there. Christians Bury their Dead. Hindus Burn them So when the body is reduced to Dust or ashes the only thing that remains is the soul. As far as I know no body in this day and age asks their soul any thing. Then the soul is innocent. Why then the soul will suffer what ever consequences that God may meet out

there are and will be those that will not accept this gift. Everyone has to take the test, no one gets a grade without taking the test. Some believe they can "do good" , they will enter into heaven. others will think they can live and do as they want and still enter into heaven, many are disobediant and choose to be. God has no other choice but to punish those that choose this. its like your own child, he/she may do bad and they are punished, you will forigve but they still will not do what is right or expected of them, you will always have to punish that child, even though you love this child...thats what hell is, punishment for those that choose the bad in life, on a greater scale.

first you have to ask God for forgiveness, and Love the Lord our God. Hell was created for Satan and the demons. God does not send people to hell peoples free will allows them to follow Satan to Hell, by there works some people just hate God, and they will have there place with Satan, because this is there free will to go there, not because God sends them. God sent his Son because he does Love the world and he wants the world to be saved through his Son but, God will not force us to Love him.

Really that's a logical Q.
Ya why hell?
In Islam if you associate or worship somebody who ever he is other than ALLAH then NOTHING is accepted from you what ever you do, and no other place other than Hell, this is mentioned very clear in Quran.

There was a say by the prophet that the prophet's father in Hell because he was pagan.
