no because this excuse is ignoring the fact that everyone has a right to free will to determine for themselves which Religious Belief System they prefer to follow without any Religious Belief System being jammed down their throat

Most religions do not condone violence. The key is that the people professing a particular belief commit the acts of violence, not the religion. I guess that is when "religion" is practiced or confused with fanaticism.

No religion orders to commit violence
Islam is a religion of peace , luv , understanding and sharing.
Unlike Christians we dont have "Popes" or King James to amend our Holy Book and cut off the stuff that is against voilence and include that which is with voilence
Thank to the God who have preserved our book out of corruptions
peace be wid all of us
May Allah bless u

The problem is not with Religion... Politics is also used to commit vile acts against humanity as well, so is Medical knowledge, as is so so many things in the world.
The power of religion is like money... it is in itself neither good nor evil.. its the greed and covetousness in humanity that invokes and distorts all the info to incite anger and hatred among mankind.

Violence marks one difference between true religion, which is a loving relationship with God, and a false religion, created by man.

A friend once asked me the same question, but this friend of mine used to deny god and asked me saying that we all of people of different religions who worship god, are involved in hatred and wars, while we - who believe in no god - are more peaceful than you are, then what are religions for ?
I answered him simply that those who use religions for violence are too tiny to be compared to those who use religions for peace and to find the truth, to be guided to god's love.
Religion, whatever it is, gives us a purpose to exist, or else, what would be the reason of your existence, rather than to represent god on earth and be good for the rest of your human brothers and sister and to all of the surroundings that host your life within.

Religion is a good thing when people DON'T use it for violent purposes, or try and push it on people who aren't interested. It's the violence and the pushing that are wrong, not faith in God.

People use political power, or political views, money, greed, sex, and many other things to committ violent acts, religion is not the only thing that people stand behind to be violent.

it has always been the convenient excuse. i think people are violent because of greed and ego, religion is just the perfect scapegoat. the crusades were launched to enrich kings and popes, they could care less about christian pilgrims to the holy land.

Man's objective is to have a good life.
Religion is a guide to have a good life.
If man's objective shifts from living a good life to living for religion then we have a problem !
And this is the problem we have today.
