I think you need a good sense of humour to be religious.

Yes. It's called Divine Laziness, and Ignorant Design. Ignorant Design comes into it when people answer a completely different question to what was asked, or choose to rant instead of answering. A lovely example I once had was a cut'n'paste that filled the page, but did not answer the question at all. I've also had a few people who completely ignore the question itself, and just say stuff like 'I agree'. Okay, you agree. Fair enough, now would you like to tell me your answer at any time? Divine Laziness is the other great religious reason for not reading. It takes the form of a question format (I'll steal your example): Q: Why don't Xs ever seem to tolerate Ys? QD: I don't personally think there's many Xs who dislike Ys, it's just a small minority who tend to be extremely rude and disgusting in their attitudes. A case of the noisiest few, so to speak. What's your opinion on this? A: We're not ALL like that!!! Stop being so judgemental!! ummmm.....READ IT NEXT TIME!!!! lol. ((((hugs))))

Nobody like to take a jibe that is meant to hurt them. We all like to have a good laugh & can joke around. I can take a good jibe about my faith. I ask myself; what is the context of the jibe? Is it to hurt me or make me laugh? I try not to be too sensitive about my faith. My faith is between myself & Jehovah God. It's nobody else' business. Cronkers faith is very strong! Everyone has the right to their opinions & their feelings. Live & Let live I always say.

Perhaps. I think a lack of humour about oneself, one's religion or any other aspect of one's life stems from an insecurity, a sense of doubt. A person who is not really sure can't bear to hear any criticism or poking fun at the things they're insecure about.

I'm secure in my faith so I can handle religious jokes & comments. It doesn't affect me. My faith is strong & unshakeable. Some people just wear blinders and talk the talk but deep down they're not really sure. They fall back on rote responses & quotes.

I can laugh at myself. I know my limits (& they are many)!

Jibe away!
:)

I doubt you could definitavly correlate a person not laughing at a stab towards their religious belief, as a sign of how flimsy their faith is.

There could be many other reasons they didnt laugh. like maybe, it wasnt really as funny as you thought it was. Some people just dont take a sense of humor towards those sorts of things. Look at islam, dont even crack a smile when you say allah :-P You will probably get shot :-P

All I am saying is, -maybe- it shows a lack of faith on their part. But it cannot be concluded simply from them not laughing off a stupid remark :-)

Depends on what the jibe is. Some things should not be jiibed about.
Proverbs 26:18 "Like a madman who throws Firebrands, arrows and death, 19 So is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, "Was I not joking?"

Just look at this...if the Muslim people kills other people, destroy buildings just because Muhammad seen in cartoon (their prophet should not be depicted or seen in a picture/drawings), how much more if you poke fun of the Supreme creator who created your hilarious brain?
You don`t really have respect on the Sacredness of the Divine Providence who created your whole being and your "holy" spirit, because you think you exist out of your own wits.
You keep on denying His existence...while He keeps on working for your salvation...until He`s hopeless to save you from everlasting condemnations.
Sorry!... if you won`t act soonest to ask His forgiveness.

No. In fact it is the opposite. Their faith is so strong that a stupid jibe is not going to make them lose their faith.

I've been reported twice in one day by someone from the 'brainwashed brigade' for saying that they are trying to convert me when they are clearly trying to convert. I never get reported in any other section of yahoo answers. I'm tempted to start reporting them for harrassment but that would then bring me down to their petty, puerile, idiotic level.

No doubt I will now be reported for calling them names again in this post. I look forward to the violation notices. Attempting to convert people to a religion is entirely immoral and should not be tolerated.

hey listen, we Christians enjoy a laugh and a joke like anybody else,it`s the vile and filthy slurs that some use that we do not find humour in, the things that some people post here concerning Jesus and laugh about, would not be funny if it was said about their own Father, Mother, Husband or Wife, and they call this free speech!

They fabricate a life-raft of assumption, opinion and belief in order to afford some protection from the endless waves of uncertaintity that wash against the shore.
