My opinion - Religion was invented by men thousands of years ago as a way to control the population. If there are threats of a "higher power" and a "hell" then people are more inclined to follow the laws of the land, considering the laws of the land are almost always the same as the laws of the prevailing "religion" in that region...

Educated folks realize this and since we are becoming more and more educated as the centuries go by more people are becoming agnostic (not knowing if there is a god) or atheist (believing there is no such thing).

On a worldwide level, no, it's not true that "less and less" (it should actually read "fewer and fewer") people are choosing to follow a religion.

My religion -- Roman Catholicism -- has more members than at any time in its history. And this is the world's largest single religious denomination that we're talking about.

I'm not very religious, but I do have faith that their is a higher power, either within ourselves or elsewhere, who knows. I would like to see less people following specific religions, like 3rd world countries, because I think it can generate hate which is not what religion is all about. It definately is a big factor in all the wars our people have died in.

Alhamdolillah, I am not. I used to be religious person but not any more. I think that religions are dyening out. See the examples of those who believe in some religion but do not follow it in its true spirit, which is equivalent to not really believing in the religion but keeping those religious beliefs due to the fears of communities of those religions. Tell me if I am wrong.

It doesn`t matter being religious or not.
How about believing what God wants you to do to save your own spirit from eternal condemnations?
Religion is never dying out because God wants to save you all the time.
You will be dying out and remain anonymous to Him if you won`t act quickly to save your own spirit by loving God and His covenant and live with it with LOVE.

I'm religious, but I don't regularly attend church. I actually think more people are becoming religious because of 9/11.

I think so. Now each day we see it, the widening divide of what is good and what is evil. Terrorists, extremism...its all boiling and wheres God? If it comes down to it, I wanna ask him why he didnt just start over, or just take our will away so we can be what he intended. Its all gonna crash...religion is confusing...a waste of constructive energy better spent with friends and family.

Superstitions, dogmas, blind faith, has killed the old religions of the past.
Religion should be the cause of friendship and unity among men.

If it is not it is better not to have any religion.
