i work in the travel industry. a travel agent called us to ask how a passenger would get to one of the maldive islands from the airport when they arrive. for a joke my colleague told them they would go by seaplane, but would have to parachute in. they actually put them on hold, and told the customer, then came back and asked how their luggage would get there! anybody else get any funny answers like this?

Loads... I used to work as a Photographer on board cruise ships and passengers would walk through the gallery and ask all sorts of questions that had nothing to do with the pictures ;
What time is the Midnight Buffet ???!!!
Do the crew get off at night???!!!
Is the Ice sculpture made of real ice???!!!
And on the Formal evening where guests would meet the captain (Many of them dressed in Tuxedos with white trainer's instead of black shoes!) and be photographed they'd ask him;
If you're here - who's driving the boat ???!!!

Speaking as a person who has never asked a question, I have no personnel experience on this matter, however, I have read some answers that, on occasions, made my blood boil. When answering a question I ask myself, can I give true and honest advice and help on this subject ? If yes, I will answer with full respect towards the person asking. If not, I will move on. Points to me are not an issue, I just want to help others within the field of my knowledge and experience, that will hopefully go some way to solving their problem. We should think more about people than points. My advice to people answering questions would be, read fully the question, think about it, then can you give a positive response? If yes, answer, if no, move on. Hope this helps you, and maybe assures you that there are genuine people out there who really do want to help.

Just last week my sister and i were backpacking in Sydney.
There were posters all around about this travel info centre, so being new to the area we walked in this guy asked if we needed help but didn't get out of his seat, we said yes while looking around and they this girl stepped in front of us like she wanted to help - she did work there. We thought ok so well ask her, so clearly we said " Were not here for long, just a few days and we'd like to know what there is to see" and she said get this " er, i dunno... um.. you can just go for a walk and see all the old building or there's the Sydney harbour" OMG i could not believe it, we just looked at her thanked her and walked out. Once we got out of the door we just started laughing, we couldn't believe this, was this their way of helping people? Backpacker Hostels all over Sydney are sending people to a centre of no-information!

Not from a travel agent, but my mother-in-law. My hubby was going to Amsterdam for a stag weekend and was driving the lads to the airport in his car, then parking it in the airport car park. When I was telling my MIL that hubby was driving she asked,'but how will he get the car on the plane?' I mean..... really!
