It depends on what part of the country you live in, and how many people you invite. An average for a "not very fancy" would be around $15,000 to $20,000 for about 100 to 150 guests. There are so many ways to cut costs. I pulled my wedding off for about $4000. and I'm doing my daughter's wedding for about $5000 with 125 guests. It takes a lot of research and creative ideas, but you can do it if you really want to save money. Call on all your friends that can help you. Do you know amature photographers, musicians, cake decorators, florists, DJ's. Call in your favors. Make your own invitations on the computer. Make your own wedding favors. Just have a cake and punch reception. There are a million ways to save and more ways to spend. Check ebay for great prices on wedding things (napkins, cake toppers, dresses, silk flowers, invitations, wedding music, favors). You can also get great budget tips from websites like The Knot.

The national average for weddings is 20k...I happen to think it is more like 30-35k though. For a small wedding you should be able to get away with 10-15k though. That assumes you are only have about 100 people for a sit-down dinner and a DJ instead of a live band.

Prices are dependant on what part of the country you are living in. Certain areas are naturally more expensive than others. In someplace like L.A. or NY, you would be hard pressed to find anything of any size under $25-50K which is the national average. In a rural community, you could probably get away with $5-10K.

Depends on how wisely you plan. Also, will there be a reception, a dance? What do you consider small to medium? 50 people or 300?
I don't think there is an "average". :)

You can pull a small wedding off for under $100 if you don't have any food, music, etc.

our wedding cost us $25 about 12 1/2 years ago
my dress (bought in mexico) $2
a tie for him $3
marriage license $15
bottle of Boones $3
gas to get to the courthouse $2
almost 13 years later we still are just as thrifty and still drink Boones and still just as in love.
Don't go overboard, it doesn't take that much to show people how much you love each other
