Was your cat hurt in some way?
He may have fallen and hurt a leg or his back, or he may have stepped on something and now it's in the pads on his paw and is hurting him to walk.
Not to scare you, but he may have had a stroke.
If you can't find anything stuck in his paw I think a trip to the Vet is in order ASAP.
Good luck, I hope all is well with Kitty.
Just to add, you mention that he's up there in years it may also be arthritis, but regardless he really should be seen by a Vet...and PLEASE DO NOT give your cat asprian, baby or otherwise...it's deadly to cats.

Vets now consider a cat to be a "senior" at eight years. Senior cats should definitely have an annual exam and blood panel done even though they don't need shots anymore.
Weakness in the legs can be a sign of kidney malfunction. If you love this cat you must have this checked out. There can be ways of treating it and, if neglected, it will only worsen.
There is nothing you can "give" him to help his legs work better.

Not sure from what you said if it is an acute problem or just general stiffness. If it is an acute problem, take him to the vet! Problems like diabetes and B vitamin deficiencies can show up as sudden hind limb weakness. Cats also can have blood clots go from their heart to their hind legs, which is painful and cuts off the blood supply. Don't give any meds at home- cats metabolize drugs differently than we do, and aspirin, tylenol, advil, etc can kill them pretty quickly. If it is old age stiffness, try Cosequin for cats. It is readily available from vets and sources like PetMeds. It has ingredients that help decrease joint inflammation and increase joint mobility, and it really works if you give it consistently.

If you are concerned about his pain get him to a vet. Again no aspirin.....not unless it is perscribed by a vet....What I mean is that I had a cat in severe discomfort from an eye injury. The vet did perscribe baby aspirin......but very guardidly....like one a week. so don't try on your own. Could be arthritis. this can be treated....if an injury....this too can be treated...storke....again there is treatment. But guessing and waiting are very injurious to your cat. Don't let him out.

It could be arthritis. Take your cat to the vet and they can tell you for sure, and they'll have something for the pain.

cats can get arthritis...
YUCCA in food will help as will Glucosamine/Condriotin
these are ONLY in the foods sold at pet supply stores - check the lables.. its more often in dog food than cat
its only a small help - seeing a vet would be a better solution...

You have to see if he has arthritis. He may have some kind of nerve damage. Did he hurt his back? That is a possible source. Get him some x rays. Take him to a vet, he may be suffering

Hi Angela...cats who suddenly are having trouble walking can be very serious. There are multiple reasons which can contribute to the inability to walk such as a mild stroke, hyperthyroidism which one of the symptoms is muscle weakness, or something as simple as arthritis. It's imperative to ring a vet as soon as possible especially if this is very sudden.
