Vinegar and water works, but if you have really heavy duty cleaning to do (lots of old buildup) you can also buy some packets of cleaning solution at the grocery store. I think it's by Mr. Coffee in a little blue box and it's sold where the coffee filters are.

You can also buy a product at Wal-Greens or Wal-Mart specifically for cleaning coffee makers. You'll be able to find it where the coffee makers are sold.
But, I have to agree with the others when they say vinegar and water. Cheapest and most effective!

You may not believe this but you use White Vinegar and water you use about a quart and a half into a the coffee pot and flush it maybe 2 and then use just water maybe 2 times. This is the way I do it

The old fashion way is just vinegar water, use it as if you were going to make a cup of coffee, then dump it out after it has perked.and then do the same with plain water. But they also have a coffee pot cleaner in the stores now.

You can use a mixture of vinegar and water. About half and half. Run it through twice. And then run plain water through twice to get the rest of the vinegar out.

I run vinegar through a normal cycle, then run three cycles of clean water. It works great.
