Most people "react"! The Warrior "acts"!
When a person gets mad, they send energy at the person they are mad at. This causes a sympathetic reaction in the other person. And they send energy
back to meet the attack.
That is why many blow up and start fighting. Because they have "lost" power
by reacting. The Warrior "acts", by remaining calm and holding his power
in. And has the advantage that might help him avoid the fight all together.
Or defeat his opponent.

There is nothing "spiritual" about it, if by spiritual you mean supernatural. It is a conditioned response developed through repetition and experience which can seem almost supenatural to someone who does not understand such a level of comittment to training. Traditionalists sometimes use the term Zanshin to describe this state of calm awareness in any situation. For more on Zanshin check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zanshindo

It is a combination of two things.

An understanding that one has given their all to be prepared for what happens, a level of confidence.

Combined with an understanding that life and death are a part of the experience of the way. Once one accepts the possibility of death, there is no longer a fear of the results. Once one accepts the possibility of injury, fear of the injury is no longer the over riding concern, the ability to execute is properly becomes more important.
