tell me why so many questions are answered with a religious tone? Especially with answers that don't have anything to do with religion. Isn't it religion that is getting us in trouble these days? Would it not be better if we kept religion to one's self? I am ready for the slamming I am going to get for this question.

America’s Founding Fathers would agree completely. In fact, John Adams (America’s second president) said,” this would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it!”.

Religion was behind most of the world’s problems then, just has it is now and has been throughout human history. Again, the Founding Fathers are on your side:

JOHN ADAMS:

•“How has it happened that millions of myths, fables, legends and tales have been blended with Jewish and Christian fables and myths and have made them the most bloody religion that has ever existed? Filled with the sordid and detestable purposes of superstition and fraud?” (Letters to F.A. Van Der Kamp 1809-1816)

THOMAS JEFFERSON:

•I join you [John Adams], therefore, in sincere congratulations that this den of the priesthood is at length broken up, and that a Protestant Popedom is no longer to disgrace the American history and character.”

•“In every country and in every age the priest [any and every clergyman] has been hostile to liberty; he is always in alliance with the despot, abetting his abuses in return for protection to his own.”

•“I have recently been examining all the known superstitions of the world, and do not find in our particular superstition [Christianity] one redeeming feature. They are all alike, founded upon fables and mythologies.”

BEN FRANKLIN:

•Some volumes against Deism fell into my hands. They were said to be the substance of sermons preached at Boyle’s Lecture. It happened that they produced on me an effect precisely the reverse of what was intended by the writers; for the arguments of the Deists, which were cited in order to be refuted, appealed to me much more forcibly than the refutation itself. In a word, I soon became a thorough Deist.”

And without the Catholic Church there would be less poverty and starving children in the world, not to mention far fewer pedophiles,

I promise I won't "slam" you, but I don't agree with you that "religion is getting us in trouble these days."

The world is bad enough as it is. Without the moral guidance that religions provide, it would be a whole lot worse.

And without religion -- without the Catholic Church, specifically -- there would be a lot more hungry and homeless people in the world than there already are.

How could all of this be accomplished, if we "kept religion to ourselves"?

If questions are answered with a religious tone, you could always ignore the religious component of the answer.

After all, we hear "tones" of all sorts all the time, and often in situations where we don't expect them. We all hear comments and questions with an unexpectedly sexual tone, or an unexpectedly humorous one, or an unexpectedly nasty tone.

We're all able to deal with these most of the time -- so why does a religious one bother some people so much? After all, you're totally free to reject the relgion that's being alluded to.

why expect a " slamming " for asking what you want to know the answer to ? religion is a personal thing and there are three subjects we can discuss which will cause hard feelings -- religion, sex and politics. however discussion teaches wisdom and knowledge where arguments cause hard feelings and resentments.
