Pork is absolutely forbidden for Muslims, Islam emphasized the importance of cleanliness physically and spiritually. God forbides Muslim to consume pork, owing to pig's character, it eats dirt and sleep all day long , there is a kind of disease that pig has , even high temperature won't be able to kill the germs. It is understood that pork is not good for health.

Pig's bodies contain many toxins, worms and latent diseases. Although some of these infestations are harbored in other animals, modern veterinarians say that pigs are far more predisposed to these illnesses than other animals. This could be because pigs like to scavenge and will eat any kind of food, including dead insects, worms, rotting carcasses, excreta (including their own), garbage, and other pigs. The Jews and Christians are also forbidden from eating pork. Here is a quote from the Old Testament to that effect: "And the swine, because it divideth the hoof, yet cheweth not the cud, it is unclean unto you: ye shall not eat of their flesh, nor touch their dead carcase In folklore terms, eating the meat of the pig is said to contribute to lack of morality and shame, plus greed for wealth, laziness, indulgence, dirtiness and gluttony. We insult a person by calling him or her a "Pig" when they demonstrate these characteristics

There are sections in the Quran that forbid the eating of swine, but similar quotes also can be found in the Bible , Old Testament that forbids the eating of swine. Therefore not only Muslims but Christians and Jews are not to eat swine either.
But, the reason for forbidden swine is really simple. At the time these religious text were written the improper cooking of pork caused many deaths. Also pigs carry alot of disease in their bodies. It really is a practical command for the religious to prevent un-necessary death.

Muslims don't eat port for the same reasons Orthodox Jews don't: in ancient times one could get deadly ill from eating pork which was undercooked. There was no way to know. Pork is different now-a-days, but to Muslims and the Orthodox Jews it is still unclean. (Not kosher)

Health Care for the Muslim
Muslims are enjoined by their religion to abstain from eating certain foods. This is in the interest of health and cleanliness, and in obedience to God. In the Qur'an, Muslims are allowed to eat what is "good" (2:168) - that is, what is pure, clean, wholesome, nourishing, and pleasing to the taste. However, certain foods are prohibited. Examples include pork and its by-products, blood, and the flesh of animals which have died without being ritually slaughtered and fully bled.

All the things Holy Books tell us is bad for us, IS bad for us. Certain types
of birds, and shell fish are scavengers. They eat already dead and decaying
flesh. Their bodies are designed for that. Our bodies aren't!
Pigs eat "anything"! They give us bad cholesterol, that clog arteries, and gives us strokes , and heart attacks. But a little pork won't kill you! As
long as one uses the things we have been given to keep things in
balance. Fiber, like oatmeal and cereals gets rid of bad cholesterol.

There are restrictions about killing animals in muslim, jewish and even Christian religion. It has to do with the fact that all creatures actually have a soul. We shouldn't harm any creature unless absolutely necessary.
Centuries ago people did not have very much information on how to be vegetarian. So they made restrictions on killing animals. Now we know enough to be vegetarian. Just get plenty of plant protein combinations.
Also consider that the pig is considered very intelligent creature. Pigs are as intelligent as dogs if not more so. Would you send your pet to slaughter? Why can't we see that all creatures are like God's pets? What right do with have to hurt God's pets?
