Eat the least amount of candy possible.
Reward yourself with one piece of candy when you accomplish something major on your "to do" list. If you don't have a "to do " list, that would be your first task and it would be a very good idea to discipline yourself to not get into eating any candy until you have done that at the very least.
The sugar in just one candy, or just one drink of pop has the potential to begin tooth decay. Its painful, expensive to repair, and looks bad. To avoid that, don't eat candy much at all. If you are eating sugar constantly you will have to be cleaning your teeth just as constantly if you don't want dental problems. That's a waste of time, so I would suggest only having sweets after a healthy meal. You are going to brush your teeth after every meal anyway, right?
The risk of getting diabetes is higher in people with a family history. Too much sugar in your body has many other health problems you should be concerned about besides diabetes. Best to get your blood and urine checked by a health professional, get their advice, then decide from there if you should actually be eating any sugar at all.

Well, I guess you can eat candy once in a while. But, if you get diabetes, that's not really good for you, you can be blind.
