Well in the 600's it was consider to be normal. She started her period so she was a woman no matter how young she was. Her bod was ready to make babies so in the eyes of society she was an adult. It was something that was done all over the world for many many years. Not even 200 years ago adult males to go out and find a 12 year old virgin to have sex with and no one bat an eye. Even today this occurs in some places. Girls are getting married as young as five or six. The idea of not being an adult when you hit puberty is a new one. Children stay children for a much longer time now then they did back then. At 9 years old girls were generally behaving and being treated like adults because that's what society saw them as. Now children are not treated the same and they stay children for a much longer time. You are making one of the most common mistakes people make when it comes to judging historical figures, you are judging them by our present standards rather than the ones from their time. Edit- Marriage is not the same thing as sex.

I'll answer your question as follow:
1) This girl you are talking about is the mother of all Muslims and the only virgin wife of prophet MOHAMMAD PB UH.
2) She was engaged to somebody else other than the prophet PB UH prior to the progression of Islam, and the non-Muslim guy who was engaged to her didn't want to marry her because she is Muslim.
3) It was well known and acceptable to the people at that time of such marriage.
4) No body of the NON Muslim population has condemned this action or otherwise it will be a Major defect in the prophet's history and they would attack him in poems which was the CNN / Aljazeera media at that time!!!!
5) I have been told by a friend that such an action was to a recent time present in India and Europe

so if society back then was so different and we must keep this in mind then why are so many people still following the "old ways" if we think it was OK for Mohamed to sleep with a child because that is what they did back then, but would not be OK with it now, what is the point of all the rest of it, I think most religions are outdated concepts to keep people subservient. And of course they said that it was a happy marriage, where was a 9 year old girl without her virginity going to go back then, she was told she was happy.

Prophet Mohamed married his wife Aisha when she was nine years old, yes. But the nine years old girl of that old time and in that desert and nomad region is not our nine years old today.

Girl were grown ups and ready to be married in this rigid region and at that time and girls were usually marrying at that time.

I'm 28 and I'm not married yet and it's ok according to my society , whereas my mother was married at 17 and it was normal for the then society also , compare the time relatively and you can then understand it.

the prophet(obuh) married her when she was 6 and consummated the marriage when she was 9(she had reached puberty t this age).may anti-Muslim will call the prophet(pbuh) a child molester.but they should know that if they are going to call him a child molester they mines well call their European ancestors one as well.as it was the norm back then to marry and consummate the marriage with girls when they attained puberty.
