because of trichinosis.

Go here for more info:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dpd/parasites/trichinosis/factsht_trichinosis.htm#what

The above site mentions other meats as a source of trichinosis as well. Perhaps in ancient times, the only infected animals in the area were pigs.

I once heard a Rabbi(Jews have the same prohibition) explain on a radio show that he knew there really is a God because God told the Jewish people not to eat the meat of the cloven-hoofed animals and only God could know at that time of the dangers of trichinosis. I had a good laugh at that one.

So the question remains - who knew of trichinosis and gave the prohibition against eaing pork products way back then? This authority must have seemed godlike to the ancients. If it wasn't God, then who was it?

Think about this: it was probably the same character(s) who issued the Ten Commandments. You know, the ones where 'God' says..."I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God." Can you imagine God being jealous? How eerily human. Take a hint.

God chooses to allow things or not for no specific reason. He never mentioned why he banned Muslims and Jewish from pork it is just a test. Anyone who gave you a reason it is not true it's just speculation. Not all meat is allowed. We also can't eat animals that eat meat like Lions only animals with 2 toes, birds and fish.

It's not an Islamic practice but a heritage of the Judaic practice from the Torah, aka Old Testament, as also is circumcision and the wearing of the skull cap by men and the covering of the hair by the women.

There were many who fell ill after eating improperly cooked pork in those days and the religious leaders saw that the pig wallowed in and ate filth and hence declared it unclean.

Jesus absolved Christians of this ban when he said "It's not what enters the mouth that profanes it, but what comes out of it that does so."

Many men, in the old days suffered from urinary tract infection for which the remedy was circumcision and that came to be.

The practice of killing an animal in the name of God, called kosher by the Jews and Halal by the Muslims who inherited this from the Jews, is from the practice of offering an animal in ritual sacrifice to God. Please refer to the story of Abraham.

The wearing of the skull cap, Jewish yarmulke, I don't know what the Muslims call it, and the Muslim hijab are both inherited from the Jews.

Have a nice day.

I dont like it when religious rules govern any aspects of peoples lifes.

Its more than likely that back in ye olden days there was a dispute between a pig farmer and a cow farmer who had a dispute over something trivial and the cow farmer started to spread the word that eating the pig was against Gods wishes.

You may think the above sounds far fetched but I believe 99% of the bible and the kuran is made up from man and his need for power.

Islam considers human as the most superior of all creations and values their lifestyles.

So animals are divided into two groups. Halal (Can be eaten) and Haram (Cannot be eaten). Some of the conditions for judging Haram animals are as follow.

1) The animal eating all kinds of muck or dirt.
(e.g. Dog, Pig, Cat, Mouse, Crow etc.)

2) If Halal animal like cow or chicken starts eating dirt then that particular animal should not be eaten anymore unless that particular animal is kept in a clean place for about two or three months.

3) All the birds that are primarily using its talons for prey.
(e.g. Eagle, Falcon, etc.)

4) All the demon animals that can attack human.
(e.g. Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Shark, Vulture etc.)

5) All animals that are made of God's curse.
(e.g. Elephant, Monkey, Rabbit, etc.) They all were human before god converted them into animals because of not obeying God. See books like Quran, Bible for whole story in detail.

6) All earth crawling creatures including reptiles, insects etc.
(This is because they contain viruses of different kinds)

7) All the animals that have feed on Pig's or any other Haram animal's milk. This also includes their babies.

8) All the animals with which man has conducted sexual acts. Such animals should be burn after killing including their babies.

9) Hunted animal that dies before the man (Hunter) has actually reached it.

10) All the types of fishes that dont have scales around their body.

These are the types of animals that are not allowed to be eaten.

They can also be judged by sayings of Imam Ali.

* Egg laying animals whose ear are inside their head are Haram.
(Snakes)

* Animals who eats with their claws (nail) are also Haram.
(Eagle, Lion)

Health Care for the Muslim

Muslims are enjoined by their religion to abstain from eating certain foods. This is in the interest of health and cleanliness, and in obedience to God. In the Qur'an, Muslims are allowed to eat what is "good" (2:168) - that is, what is pure, clean, wholesome, nourishing, and pleasing to the taste. However, certain foods are prohibited. Examples include pork and its by-products, blood, and the flesh of animals which have died without being ritually slaughtered and fully bled.

pork is very dangerous, the islamic rule probably dates back to making an easy way to convince people not to eat it and therefore put their lives at risk.
don't see much use for the rule now.many muslims might respond and give you the theological reason

Well Mohammed stole that idea from the Jewish scriptures. Jews consider the pig as unclean and so do not eat anything that comes from a pig.
