I'm currently on a quest to loose about 30 lbs, so I know where you're coming from. It's a challenge, but I can see some things in your question that tells me that you've already got the right attitude.
First: you don't care how long it takes. That's great! That's usually one of the first areas that people fall down on because they forget that it took time to put the weight on and it won't all disappear overnight.
Second: you've already seen a doctor to get professional help. So many people embark on weight loss without knowing what they really should be weighing.
So...enough about the stuff you already knew. :) You want to know how do you do it? It's pretty simple - to loose weight you need to expend more calories than you take in. 1 lb is 3500 calories - so if you reduce the amount of calories you need by 500/day, you should drop 1 lb per week. So, how many calories do you need to maintain? There are lots of websites out there, but try the one I listed in the sources on for size. Next, track you'll need a way to count the calories that you take in. I use FitDay Online (free) to track mine. You'll quickly find that by reading the labels and looking up info on what you're eating that you'll start to really reduce the amount of some foods you'll eat. (Like pop and fast foods, for example.)
Exercise is also a great way to kick start your metabolism. You say you already figure skate, so that's always something. If you want to do more, you could always go for a walk (or if so inclined, take up jogging). Physical exercise won't just help with your weight loss, it'll also firm up and tone those muscles which is part of a healthy looking body.
The only other thing that I'd suggest is getting yourself involved in with some sort of support group. By involving yourself with a group of like-goaled and like-minded people, you can all motivate each other when you feel like giving up. You'll also pick up important "tips and tricks" from more seasoned people. If you have the money and want to do things in person, check out Weight Watchers. If you don't want to fork out the cash and don't mind message boards, check out "3 Fat Chicks on a Diet". (I'm a regular there on the 30-something's support group.)
Best of luck!

Any weight loss should always be a combination of exercise and diet. If your in to figure skating you should do some weight training and not just with pencil weights either. Weight training will aid just about any sport (maybe even chess!). The more muscle you put on, the more calories you burn even while sleeping. As far as diet is concerned, stay away from soda pop, ANYTHING deep fat fried, junk food, you know what they are. These questions pop up constantly. How do I lose weight? People already know how to do it, its just a matter of taking the bull by the horns, applying yourself and taking responsibility.

you can try all kinds of diet pills but after your off them the weight comes back, trust me i know, any way the best thing i have found and i lost 75lbs and kept it off. is drink a LOT of water eat a good healthy breakfast ,drink a big glass of water before every meal eat a good lunch and a light dinner and don't eat 2hrs before you go to bed. skating is great exercise,( I found doing a exercises you like doing like sports, running, aerobics, dancing, you will stick with it try doing a something like that kind of exercise you like at least 3 times a week, cut your eating portions down and don't have 2nds.Stay a way from the junk food if you do get a strong craving for something say chips splurge and get the smallest bag you can find if you don't give into your craving you go on a eating bing. you keep this up and the weight comes off and stays off, try to drink at least 8-10 8oz. of water every day at first you will be going to the bathroom a lot but then you body gets use to it.keep checking in with your doctor also. good luck!!

Sugar, you need to weigh about 120. I'm about 5' 1", 13 years old, and I weigh 110.5 (out of deep dark fate, I'm trying to weigh 100). You're just peachy as you are now (you keep up the skating, and you'll be good for life. Exercise is important.). Just remember to eat healthy, and keep exercising. Good Luck!

Go to Weight Watchers....they have a web site...it is the healthiest way to eat and if you follow the plan and exercise, you will lose weight. Just one word of caution.....only do this because it is the healthy thing to do and because your doctor agrees...never because a boyfriend thinks you should....good luck..
